4.0 out of 5 stars Great series, absolutely woeful subtitles 11 Dec 2007
Format:DVD
Looking to increase my Hindi proficiency, I looked forward to finally seeing the famed Mahabharat series: I didn't have great expectations of special effects or production values, which while quietly amusing at times, make the series more endearing than anything. That said, the subtitles are among the worst I have ever seen: things left untranslated [which often happens in subtitles, admitted] but whole sentences are left out. When the subtitles do appear, they are out of sync to the extent that the scene has changed, and the subtitles for the last scene finally show up. How could Arrow have thought this was anywhere near acceptable? Bottom line: a great series if you speak Hindi, but don't expect to be able to follow the story relying on the "subtitles".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not brilliant. 29 July 2004
Format:DVD
For those that watched Mahabharat on TV this is a welcomed edition. The story is portrayed in an excellent manner. I have really enjoyed watching this. The only deterrant is that the picture quality isn't as good as what might be expected for a DVD. But I would buy this anyway!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation 29 Jan 2006
Format:DVD
An excellently compiled series. this contains all the complete 94 episodes as aired on TV with a running time of over 70 hours. contains 'the making of the mahabharat' as a special feature which is a must watch. sound quality and audio quality is amazing. good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creaking but brilliant
This is a classic. It creaks, the acting is wooden and the English voice overs are hilarious. But it is a massive 94 part epic unparallelled in it's breath and scope. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Unwatchable
We tried very hard to watch this. Having both read and enjoyed an abridged English translation of the Mahabharata, we were really looking forward to watching this. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Subtitles very much out of sync!!!
Great story line and finally nice to not have to watch VHS. However the subtitles are very much out of sync and so this ruins the enjoyment. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Mahabharata
I watched this to follow the story line. If you are a lover of special effects, this is not for you, as they are awful.
So not recommended for the movie buffs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mahabharat
The series is excellent.
However, the subtitling is awful.
The subtitling is out of sequence.
The translation of the subtitles is inaccurate.
What a let down.
