When I bought the DVD of Magnum (having seen it first time round on TV) I really had doubts about whether I was doing the right thing. But two box sets later they really have been great TV.
For those of you who dont know much about the series, Magnum is a retired naval intelligence officer, turned private detective, who lives in the guest house, (as head of security) on the estate of an incredibly wealthy, but very illusive writer Robin Masters. Glimpses of Mr Masters are extremely rare and Magnum ekes out a living as a private detective aided by his two friends "Rick" who runs a local club and TC a helicopter pilot who makes a living flying tourists around the island.
The stories are set in a beautiful location with the sun and sea always in the background, and generally well written mixing a good detective story with a touch of humour thrown in. Magnum has constant run-ins with the english estate manager "Higgins" who likes to reminisce about his war days and enjoys exercising the dogs "Zeus" and "Apollo" on Magnum, as they see him pretty much as an intruder. It's cheery, upbeat and generally light hearted although not comic, and is great for family viewing (I showed them to my 15 year old nephew and he quite liked them). Im very glad I bought these series and I shall be getting the third box set when it comes out.

First off Tom Selleck IS Magnum . He is a brilliant under rated actor ,he would have played Indiana Jones but was contracted to doing Magnum ( true ) .all the other cast members play their parts very well too , Higgins is played by John Hillerman who is in fact a Texan who has the english accent nailed ...
The second series is great . fantastic stories and guest stars such as Mimi Rogers , Pat Morita ( mr miyagi from the original karate kid ) and loads of others .. there are 22 episodes in this box set plus a bonus episode of the A Team ( Diamonds n Dust )and an episode of Knight rider (Brothers Keeper ) ... the picture quality is bright and vivid with very little grain or loss . i use a ps3 with upscaling and a samsung 32" lcd t.v . The running time is 17 hours and 8 minutes . A real bargain and in my opinion a MUST HAVE .

I have this box set and the episodes have an English, French and German audio track and subtitles in English, French, German, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish.
No need to praise the Magnum series, anybody who has ever watched a Magnum episode knows what I'm talking about. Where else do you get an intelligent and funny series with Hawaiian sun, beaches, palms and a PI in a red Ferrari? And Tom Selleck is also very nice to look at, especially in swimming trunks...

I've been a fan of Magnum PI for some time. I watched it when it originally aired and since then on re-runs for years. I bought Series 1 and 8 recently and now I'm buying up the others.
Series 2 is naturally excellent and of course any fan will want to buy it. There are no extras other than an A-Team episode, Knight Rider episode and a Magnum PI series 1 trailer and Miami Vice series 1 trailer. To be honest I'm not bothered. Bonus material for any DVD is usually boring.
I'm assuming the intro to every episode was something separate to the the episodes which is pretty apparent on this DVD because their quality is slightly less than the actual episode. Again another minor quibble.
Any fan should definitely buy it and I think those who aren't fans should try giving it a go. You may just like Magnum more than you think.

Big fan of Magnum Pi. One of my favorites from the 80's. If you enjoyed watching this as a kid, treat yourself and take a trip down tv memory lane.

Box set as described, quality is great compared to many other shows of that era, and as a window into the 'eighties'... awsome. I will be purchasing more. (this is the same review as I gave for season 1.)

I think that Magnum is among the best of the tv "Private Eyes" Plots are thrilling, very varied, reasonably believable and excellently played by all the characters involved. No expense seems to have been spared in the production and, as if this weren't enough, the scenery in Hawaii plus the helicopter and the Ferrari put it at the top of its genre.
