good action 23 Jan 2003
By beovar
Format:DVD
Good standard kung fu flick. There's less wrong with this movie than most Kung Fu flicks. Michelle Yeoh is the pretty (but capable) heroine in the movie and the action scenes are good. No excessive wirefighting for those who don't like that stuff - most of it here is used in throwing people through the air after they've been kicked. Only weakness is that there is nothing exceptionally memorable or outstanding about the movie.

I really liked the extras which included a very detailed Michelle Yeoh Biography (not just a cinematography) and an interview; Michelle Yeohs first onscreen appearance in an ad with Jackie Chan and a series of Hong Kong legend trailers to help you decide what to buy next.

Summary: not a bad movie, not a great movie, action scenes are good and the movie is quite lighthearted throughout, worth watching - depends on the price if it's worth buying... you should definitely get it if you're a Michelle Yeoh fan if only for the extras.

In this film, which could be best described as an Eastern Indiana Jones with a feminist slant, Michelle Yeoh uses all of her action skills to battle against the oppressive Japanese. In a series of superb sequences, Yeoh and her aides take on a posse of villains who are intent on building a chemical weapons factory to further enhance their war effort. Although the budget is small in comparison to a Hollywood film, the look and feel of the film is splendidly realised. Get this instead of Charlie's Angels if you want REAL action.

Michelle Yeoh dons the Indiana Jones look for this action adventure set in Asia. As all 'Jones' movies, there is too much much talking, but you won't mind that here while its Ms Yeoh providing it. As the movie progresses, Yeoh is joined by Hong Kong super funny man, Richard Ng, and together they encounter Japanese Yakuza, Mongolian warriors and many many more enemies. the action and fights are plenty, with Wong Chen Lee (Drunken Master) as one of the main bad guys, and doesn't fail to impress, with both stars looking as great as ever. An highly enjoyable film... you'll like it!
