January 2012.
I am able to compare this bag, which I use every day, with the previous model I used, the 1630 (which did not have the scuff-resistant plastic base.)
The zips on this bag have larger teeth, operate more easily and may be more robust; only time will tell. The 1630 was a good bag.
There is considerably more room in this bag than my previous model. It is deeper.
Curiously, whereas the 1630 came with a divider for the central compartment, this Magma model did not. I have had to use the divider I already owned to separate my laptop pc from my paperwork.

The ability to zip-up and carry-away everything within one bag is great; even in a rain-shower and small parts can be retained within the internal zip-up pocket.

Quite why the elasticated tool-holding loops are orientated horizontally, so that the entire side-flap needs to be deployed before tools may be withdrawn, I do not know. Technical equipment tends to be hidden-away in areas with restricted space and the ability to operate out of an only partially-open bag would have been useful.

Neither am I sure whether the bright red lining would be accepted as meeting the need for warning of a trip hazard when the side flaps are deployed in the 'on the floor', 'engineer-on-site' arrangement.

I really do have much experience with various arrangements for working in a technical capacity in customers premises and this bag surpasses the popular 'alloy' technicians case with its plywood structure, flimsy hinges and dubious securing catches.

It is not really designed for site installation work, where heavier tools need to be carried in a more physically demanding environment and where I would use a combination of a metal toolbox and an open tray.

After just over a year, this bag pretty much needs replacing.

The stitching has had to be fixed several times, the zips have broken, strap has broken and now the rubber base is falling apart. The reason I got this was the rubber base which I thought would help it last, despite the massive increase in weight this adds. Mine weighs in at 16kg with tools and laptop!

Given how well the blue CK bags lasted, and great experience of their tools, I have to say this is the biggest waste of money anyone can buy. It's not be thrown about, it's not been abused. it simply isnt upto the job.

It's just not designed for field engineers. It's too delicate and simply doesnt last. £50+ isnt an item I'd expect to only last 1 year. I'd expect a £15 bag to last this long. I'm expecting a minimum of 3 years, daily hard use in a mix of field conditions.

DONT BOTHER. AVOID

Bought this case for our company van to hold all the tools required for assembling office furniture. Lots of places to store all the tools with a very good deep pocket in the middle of the bag that can hold two cordless drills and batteries. Zips are big and tough and the base is strong enough to take all the bounding from being thrown around the van. Very happy with this case and I am sure it will last for years.

Came as advertised.perfect condition.expensive item looks the part for a professional but experience with previous item tells me this wont sustain the rigours of day to day in a rough engineers environment.hence technicians case.first one tried with a solid base so we will see.

For many many years I have used hard sided ABS cases for my work. This case is so much better in many ways. It has loads of loops for storing tools and extra storage pouches for small parts cable ties and insulation tape etc. When I am working in a tight space I can still access by unzipping the top, I don't have to open the sides fully. The inside compartment is big enough the larger items such as the multimeter sprays etc. I also like the shoulder strap. Highly recommended.

Excellent value but a few small changes would make a big difference and delivery was very prompt. :-). The quality of this case is a lot higher than you would expect for the price paid. I have used this case as a CCTV service engineer every day since receiving it, so I've had time to get to know the ups and downs... the ups apart from the ones I've already mentioned both the handle and shoulder strap are well padded and easy to carry without cutting into you.( and if like me you have to park some way from your job.. the joys of pedestrianised town centres ) Easy access to your tools even without opening it up all the way, Great for working in confined spaces. :-)
Not so good... while some of the pockets are elasticated for the screwdrivers etc not all are and not very wide, so your limited to what will fit in. also the outer zipped covers have very little give so again very limited to what you fit in. Expendable sides would mean you could fit all your bits in without struggling with the zips :-(
