Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 3.0 offers an easy-to-use, and inexpensive way of converting music from records and cassettes into a digital format. It also allows you to add mastering effects to your recordings to further enhance the quality. You can then save them on your hard drive or burn them to CD.

Once you launch the software you will find a user-friendly interface with large self-explanatory buttons. At this point you are given the option of watching videos that walk you through the simple process of importing, cleaning, adding effects and exporting your files.

You can import audio by recording it to your hard drive through your PC's soundcard (you will need an RCA cable to connect your stereo to your PC), by getting tracks from CDs placed in you CD drive or by using digital audio stored on your computer. Once the audio is imported Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 3.0offers a whole range of cleaning and effects tools. The Declicker and Decrackler are the best for vinyl recordings and are simply turned "on" or "off", which makes a substantial difference. The Denoiser is great for taking that annoying hiss out of poorly recorded cassettes. Then there are the mastering effects: the stereo enhancer, EQ and compressor tools that all help to add a little crispness back to your recordings and the reverb, echo, delay, and declipper effects. There is a very helpful wizard to guide you through the process or you can just have a play yourself as the changes happen in real time.

Once you have your recordings sounding the way you want them you can then arrange and save them on your hard drive as MPEG, WMA or WAV files, or burn them to CDs. You can also save files as MP3s, however you can only make 20 of these, so if you want more you will need to buy an upgrade.

Overall Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 3.0is a very simple way of cleaning and storing audio from CDs, LPs and cassettes. The changes it makes are significant although the noise on very poor recordings cannot be eliminated. Aside from the miserly offering of only 20 MP3 formats, this software is excellent value for money and breathes new life into those tired old recordings. --Jarrod Rendle

Manufacturer's Description

Record digital-sounding recordings from vinyl records without the pops, and from cassette tapes without the hiss. Recording is also fully automated, because the program identifies individual tracks. Edit your music with a two-track view for cross-fading and cutting. You can filter out the vocals of a track with karaoke mode, and Audio Cleaning Lab 3.0 also lets you record, so you can replace the singer's voice with your own. Finally, you can add up to 22 professional effects from various categories.

Not bad 23 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Certainly not a bad product but it did not live up to the high accolade some other reviews. Needs time and a bit of trial and error to get used to the program but when you do get the hang of it it more than does the job. I am more than pleased with the results gained with my old cassettes and vinyl however if you've got broadband it's much less hassle and time consuming to seek out the tracks you need via kazaa or another file sharing program.
