When we first purchased this very smart, stylish looking kettle with the valued Magimix brand, we thought we had another good Magimix product but it was not the case. The kettle is extremely noisy - why don't manufacturers say how noisy or quiet a kettle is; surely this is important information for the buyer - drowning out radio, music and conversation but it has other faults. We had one kettle replaced as the filter fell off but after just a few months, the filter fell of the replacement kettle and cannot be fixed. The lack of filter means that the kettle carries on steaming for a long time after its boiled so both wastes electricity and steams up the kitchen. All you can say to recommend this kettle is: it boils water and looks stylish - that's about it.

This kettle looks great, and boils quickly. It also has a lid that was broken after 18 months...
If you don't mind buying a new one every year, then this a great choice. But if, like me, you expect an 80 quid kettle to last a bit longer, you might be better off looking elsewhere..

To look at, this is a beautiful kettle. I thought so when I bought my first one which, unfortunately had to be exchanged by the vendor after only eight months when the thermostat/auto switch off became faulty. Nevertheless I thought this was a one off and, because it is a beautiful piece of equipment, I bought two more as gifts for my sons.
One of these was returned within three months when the lid stopped opening properly. The other has been in limited use for twelve months and is OK.
My replaced item has just been consigned to the bin one month outside the original three year (extended) warranty and, therefore, just over two years old itself. The reason for this is because the lid opening mechanism has failed. It consists of small plastic clips which have worn out and broken off. Additionally the kettle has recently stopped turning itself off as soon as the water reaches boiling point.
Conclusion:- there are two unacceptable and common faults in the design of this item which are well demonstrated in three of the four kettles I have experience of. One, the thermostat is weak and prone to failure and, two, the design of the lid hinge is even weaker and prone to failure. The latter fault renders the kettle dangerous because the only way to open the kettle without putting fingers in the steam line is by the quick release button which stops automatically opening the lid prior to total failure.
For the cost charged I expected much more in the way of operational quality and reliability but, maybe, the terms of the manufacturers guarantee should have put me on my guard. I would not buy another Magimix product.

Lid broke a few months after warrantee expired. I have had 12.99 Argos kettles that lasted longer! Has always been heavy, very bad pourer when full (eg for prepping pasta water, spills everywhere). Magimix refused to replace, and i will be looking for an alternative. Do not buy!!

We've had at least three - more fool us - and with each of them the hinge of the lid has failed after a few months, precisely as described by others in their reviews here. As they say, you can buy a better kettle for a six of the price. What is interesting is that the manufacturers and large retailers have no excuse for feigning ignorance of the fact that this is a useless piece of junk for which they are seeking a hefty price, but they go on trying to fool folk into buying it, when any honest person would accompany it with a prominent notice "WARNING - HINGE LID WILL FAIL SOON!!", and offer those writing here an apology and a full refund. Yes, Magimix, Amazon and John Lewis, we mean you. Do not disappoint us.

We have had such a similar experience to other reviewers here. 3 of these kettles in 7 years. Each one had the lid failure issue. Why is a brand known for such heavy duty quality kitchen appliances using such flimsy plastic-based construction for the lid on this kettle? Plastic like this cannot withstand multiple blasts of 100 degrees C and is bound to fail. The same poor plastic is used for the limescale filter holder. When that failed on our 3rd kettle, there was no way to replace it. We also had the issue others have had with the on button not engaging and/or switching off seconds after being switched-on.
Magimix have obviously had so many irate customers and returns that when we had our 3rd replacement, they told us we can never have another replacement. If you look around the review sites, its amazing that this kettle has about THE poorest rating from consumers like us yet Magimix other products are viewed highly in most circles. How can a company get its product design and build so wrong..? We have now replaced it with a Dualit. Lets hope this proves to be better quality.

Just like the other reviewers we bought one of these flash looking kettles. It worked really well til the lid mechanism broke when we opened it. Too expensive for that kind of fault to happen.
