WOW!! WHAT A MACHINE!, 31 Oct 2006
OK, I went looking for a coffee machine and tried the Senseo, the Tassimo, even the new Dolce-Gusto, but IMHO this knocks them all into another league. The Senseo and Tassimo are just drinks vending machines, doing a number of things to an average standard. The Krups Dolce-Gusto is better, but the coffee let it down, IMO. This machine is a real dedicated coffee lovers machine. The machine itself is well built and not plasticky. The water tank at the back is substantial. It has a frothing pipe on the side to do real milk for latte and cappucino. The coffee comes in pods that will stay fresh for a year. They come in 9 varieties of expresso and 3 of lungo. The pods cannot be purchased from the supermarket, they come from the Nespresso Club which you join when you buy the machine. Orders arrive in 24 hours and can be placed by phone, order form or online. The quality of the coffee is superb.
I was a bit concerned becasue this machine, though made by Magimix, only takes pods from Nespresso. Could I get the pods easily? Yes! How expensive would they be? 23p a cup! But the parent company is Nestle, what about ethics? Nespresso beans are AAA quality and they participate in the Sustainable Quality programme, contracting with small farmers to produce top quality beans and paying them more. I would suggest before buying the machine you look at the Nespresso website so you know how the club thing works. If you need to be able to buy pods at a supermarket, then this isn't for you.
If you want great coffee and are not bothered about having a machine that doesn't do chocolate or tea or soup, the Nespresso range is the business! Mine is the all black version of the M200, but there are more machines in the range to suit different prices. It's quick, it's quiet, it's stylish. Oh, and it has a nifty way of ejecting the used pods to a collection bin, too!

Fab Machine, 19 Dec 2006
We were looking for a 'convenience' coffee machine, like to have fresh coffee and variety for guests but not that regularly. Previously we've had the old fashion cappucino/espresso machine, where you have to faff with fresh coffee, which offen went stale (due to the irregular use). We tried the Tassimo which was dreadful, the milk for the cappucino comes in pouches and tastes vile (I've had better from a vending machine!) So we decided to splash out and get the nespresso M200 - with the cappucino spout and it's awesome!!! I can't express just how good this machine is. It comes with 1 each of the 18 different coffee capsules they do (can just about tell the differance) Extras can be bought online with Nespresso club in packs of 10 for just £2.30. The machine is so simple to operate, just 1 button to push for coffee - move the handle forward, then push another button for milk - move the handle back - easy! The manual operation allows you to specifiy exactly how much you want (depending on your cup size for example) The best bit in my opinion is the cappucino spout. It has a pastic tube which goes directly into your fresh milk, you press the steam button, then pushing the handle back gives perfect warm frothy milk directly into the cup everytime! (for just warm not frothy milk you can rotate the nozzle to latte setting)
This machine does flawless fresh coffee, first time everytime and doesn't mind being left for weeks between - but why would you bother with instant when fresh is so easy. You can make an authentic cappucino in the time it takes to boil the kettle!!!

The top of the range coffee machine for a perfect espresso, 25 Nov 2006
In the past I used a standard Italian espresso machine, but I decided to look at the different capsule-type machines appearing in the market. Firstly I found that the little paper-like filter packs produced a coffee similar to, but possible not even as good as, a normal filter-paper coffee. When I tried the Nespresso system I found that it makes a very good espresso - nice, rich and deep taste with a little bit of foam on top. I lived in Italy for some time, so I am always on the lookout for a short, intense coffee (no sugar). I also wanted a machine that really is based upon a high pressure, and the Magimax has around 20 bar of static pressure (I've seen some poor copies that only work of 3-5 bar). I like the Magimix because it has the small cup/large cup, and I need the large cup option (with the long capsule) for the morning wake-up. A key trick is to first run some water through it before making the coffee - this way the heating system gets going and you warm the cup. I don't use the option for making Cappuccino. I order the capsules on the Web and they turn up in the post a couple of days later. I have tried lots of different coffee options, but the difference between some of the different types of coffee in the different capsules is not always easy to detect - so I stick to 4-5 different types of coffee - long for breakfast, short and intense for the evening, and a decaffeinated option. My impression is that the capsule system keeps the coffee fresh. The system is not cheap, and I have 2 of them in different countries, but they are worth it.
