5.0 out of 5 stars Magimix 5100 food processor, 4 Jul 2004
Great machine - wouldn't be without it. I cook alot (and I mean a lot - 2 - 3 dozen cakes each week) and I'm now on my third one of these and thinking of buying a fourth. Don't dishwash the bowls, they go brittle and crack. Having discussed this with Magimix, dishwasher and detergent manufacturers they don't recommend it and Magimix do not guarantee bowls which have been dishwashed! Bit of a downer as I must be on my 8th set of bowl and lid at £50+ per set. Having said all that it is still a great machine (and you can fudge the safety catch with a meat skewer if that little bit of plastic breaks off). If you want a serious food processor buy the 5100 in any of it's colours but don't go for the extras unless you really are going to use them - they just take up space in the cupboard or loft.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased with purchase!, 22 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Excellent! Glad I went for the 5100, as main-bowl is just the right size for my needs (two people). Versatile and good for making batches of things. Comments about fragility of plastic safety switch from other reviewers are valid though, but if you're careful it should not be much of a problem. The recipe booklets that accompany the machine are a disappointment (very 70's). Overall, very pleased with purchase!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great till it breaks!, 10 Oct 2003
By C. L. Sams (Hastings UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this excellent machine a year ago and it has served me perfectly in every respect, but a week ago the little safety button that ensures the machine won't go on unless the lid is properly closed chipped. Then the bit on the top that pushes it down snapped off. These are the flimsy plastic parts of the machine, but once they go you have to replace them I found a spare parts online vendor and purchased a new bowl and lid at a cost of more than £78. As this is nearly half the price of the machine one can't help thinking that this device is a bit like those inkjet printers where you get the printer for next to nothing and spend your life's savings on ink cartridges. In Magimix case it's the cost of replacement parts.

So go easy on this sensitive and rather weak part of the machine or be aware of the consequences.

This fantastic machine has now been superceded by the even more powerful and flexible 4200 & 5200 range. Just search for Magimix 4200 (or 5200) and put this old model to bed.
