4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 24 May 2011

Our ancient old mixer started to die right about the time when "Jamies 30 Minute Meals" was onscreen, and just about every other recipe needed a mixer. As a family with 2 kids under 4 years old, eating healthy, home prepped food is very important to us personally, and this sort of device has become very useful and well used.

We agonised over the choice of mixer for some weeks/months before buying this one. We were quite prepared to pay for a quality item and we have not regretted our choice one bit.

Key features for us included
- large capacity - specifically with regard to making big batches of pizza dough, it is rated up to 1kg flour I think, although I'm not sure I would put that much in.
- height. the 4200XL is several cm taller and would not have gone under our wall cabs
- simple, clean design, and 3 simple buttons
- well designed storage tray for all the bits and bobs, this genuinely was a real draw for us. Compared to the old one with bits of blades scattered all over the cupboard.
- good guarantee

We bought this before christmas and additionally got some free blades etc.

I would say we use it 2-3 times a week now. I mentioned pizza dough making, fabulous. Potato dauphinoise with the slicer is fab. Child #1 is old enough to help put things in the bowl for making cakes at the weekend. We've made all sorts of salsas and sauces etc, mostly from the jamie 30 min book.

Washing it is not particularly problematic if done quickly. It's easy to wipe clean. It's realatively quiet. The feet do an OK job of keeping it in situ, apart from when heavy stuff is rattling round (pizza dough again)

If I was to level any criticism at it, I would say:

- the inner bowls sort of work, but do suffer from spillage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magimix magic :) 15 Nov 2010

Fantastic food processor, I wish I had invested years ago in a Magimix.
Beautiful to look at and easy to use, the blades make light work of chopping, grating and slicing. The only thing that would have been nicer is a wider feeder tube so that I didn't have to cut potatoes in half before slicing them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of kit 28 Dec 2010
We had our previous Magimix for 12 years and it was used consistently with no problems before the motor went. It was a no- brainer to go with the same make again. So far, been proved right - this is a solid, well built machine, ideal for all cooking tasks. You couldn't go far wrong in buying this, and be confident it will last.

After just over a year of moderate family use, the plastic spindle on our 4200 has warped, which has also ruined the plastic mount points of the blade attachments. At 37 for a new main blade and 10 for a spindle, it's a big cost to replace.

Love it. Great machine, beautiful sharp blades and so quiet to run, even with the baby asleep nearby. Jobs that took 30 minutes before now take a couple of minutes which is very handy when time is so precious. It is easy to clean, easy to use (even hubby who only knew how to make toast and boiled potatoes before, now uses the magimix to make dressings, chocolate, oat balls....), looks beautiful and works a treat. Yes the other bowls do sometimes get a little messy when combining liquids but its a small price to pay and easy to clean so no bother. You do need some kind of small bottle brush to get inside some of the parts and I think magimix should really include one in their price but to be honest for the price, I feel like I have got an absolute bargain. I am just waiting anxiously for my free creative kit now!
