This was purchased to replace a 10-year old version that had given up the ghost. On all counts it has been an impressive upgrade - the build quality remains substantial but the clever touches, such as non-heat conductive handles, removable base to one of the trays to create a larger steaming area, the detachable power cord (can now be disregarded when taking the base to the sink to tip out fluids after use) all combined with simplicity of use and smart design. The food produced is superb - imho the finest method of cooking fish there is. Finally the dispatch and delivery: another faultless Amazon experience, thank you. Highly recommended.

I bought this after having a Magimix mixer/blender for many years, that has been excellent. I chose this as it was stainless steel: previous steamers were in plastic which eventually breaks, rendering the machine useless. At nearly £150 this was much more expensive than other models. But as it was Magimix I thought it would be a premium worth paying. However, the first one I received had a fault: it cut off after 10 minutes or so, and the display blinks on and off, and a beeping noise starts until you turn it off. It can be restarted after a short pause, but will then cut off again within a minute or so. Amazon promptly sent me a replacement, but unfortunately this has exactly the same fault. Seems like some sort of overheat safety cut-off device is faulty. Not impressed by a supposedly premium product. Could understand if this was just one example (it happens, even with premium products) but two examples with the same fault is not acceptable. Can not recommend.

Magimix 11578 Multifunctional Brushed Stainless Steel Digital Steamer

This replaced our previous steamer. The overall impression is favourable alhough its size makes it difficult to store. The digital function is very good as is the audible warning of completion. We can no longer use the liquor from the steamed veg to add to gravy etc as this falls into the water compartment and is not retained separatly. We'll get used to the differences and know it will last a lot longer than the other plastic version of another make

This is one of the most fantastic items I've ever bought! I'd been searching for a steamer, and as I've never owned one before I thought the only electric steamers available were plastic. However, after reading numerous poor reviews and learning that the plastic trays often can't be replaced once broken I thought I'd better look for something else. Boy, am I glad I did! This not only looks great but it does the job perfectly. As an added bonus it's a labour saving device - no more heavy pans to wash, just the light stainless steel trays. Best of all though I can set it running and take the dog for a walk, so it's a great time-saver too. I'm not a great lover of cooking but this makes something I've always found a chore, very enjoyable. It cooks rice and vegetables to perfection and cooks fish fillets from frozen. I've managed tuna and salmon and they've been fantastic. Because they don't need defrosting, there's no risk of the "fishy" taste I really hate.
Obviously, with steam the pans are really hot and dry quickly, so to make light work of the washing up (unfortunately I don't have a dishwasher)I have a sink of hot, soapy water ready to plunge the pans into as soon as the food is out. I also use the tray with the removable base for fish so it's easier to clean. This is quite a big item (I wasn't sure how big until I saw a review and picture in the Daily Mail by their cook Anne Shooter) but that means that you can sometimes get away with just using one tray. Although it takes up some space on the worktop it's frequently in use so I don't anticipate it being condemned to the cupboard of "why did I buy that" kitchen items! All in all, not a cheap item but you definitely get what you pay for - sturdy, robust, simple to use, made for daily use and built to last.

made like a tank compared to those plastic things from Tefal et al. Recommend to anyone who's sick of the plastic ones breaking.

This steamer out performs all previous plastic type units and is easy to clean, quick to heat-up and cooks evenly retaining flavour and texture. If you can afford it, buy.

This is a really nice piece of equipment and makes steaming so much easier - almost a pleasure. The cleaning afterwards is also much easier. It's nice to handle.
I say this after having used a Tefal steamer for many years.

A two person household with modern appliances including dish washer. We previously owned three Morphy Richards "Intellisteam Models". All were excellent except that the plastic containers split within a few months.
We bought the Magimix because the containers were stainless steel.
From the start it failed due to intermittent connection of plug and socket.
The construction uses special screws no doubt to prevent tampering but as a qualified engineer I could no doubt fix this poor aspect.
Unless Magimix send a replacement or screwdriver bit for me to repair it before I return it, I shall buy another "intellisteam" and resort to hand washing the plastic containers. We use a steamer every day. The star rating will be adjusted depending on the response from "Magimix".
