Bought from John Lewis December 2008. First impressions - great looking kettle with a very nice feel.

Unfortunately, after a few days of use, lid opening button became dysfunctional. Lid would only open intermittently, regardless of whether kettle contained hot water or not. Problem became more frequent with increased use.

Kettle returned and replacement received. EXACTLY the same problem all over again after only a few days of use. Not good enough for a kettle that costs about £70. Very surprised that a relatively simple mechanism can be so unreliable.

Would definitely NOT recommend this kettle as the lid mechanism is very likely to breakdown at some point, if yours hasn't already!

First kettle delivered leaked water into the electrical base which Amazon (true to form) replaced immediately and without fuss. The replacement boils up fine but the filter inside the spout falls into the kettle every time the water has been boiled (very irritating). In short, I think Magimix have real issues with the quality of the design and/or the components in this product. Have to say that I wouldn't buy the same again. Have other Magimix products which work fine but would now hesitate to buy Magimix again now that they are allowing such a shoddy product out of their factories and into the shops. Would have thought Magimix would take much more care in protecting their brand but they appear to be slipping. You can certainly buy better.

    Verified Purchase
Purchased this product last week from Amazon Market Place Seller. The lid was open on receipt, and was very difficult to close; the latch mechanism seemed flimsy and insubstantial compared to the overall weighty robust feel of the kettle. Also the rubber seal around the lid appeared uneven and twisted.
Assuming I was doing something wrong, I persevered until the lid remained closed and boiled the kettle about half capacity, it switched off and I began to pour when the lid sprung open and I scalded my hand quite badly.
If this had happened to someone with a weak grip I hate to think what might happen, such a weighty kettle might cause one to drop it or spill it on anything/anyone nearby. Dangerous product. 5 days after contacting seller still have not had a response. Disgusted and angry.

We have had two of these kettles now and both developed the same dangerous fault within a year of use. The kettle develops a leak at the bottom of the handle and this drips onto the electrical base and onto the worktop. We complained direct to Magimix and they replaced the first kettle. The second now has the same fault and we are writing to them again. Ours is the 11566 model (brushed stainless steel) but I see from the other reviews that other people have had the same problem with these ones (which are exactly the same but with a polished finish)

We have pointed out to Magimix that this is obviously a design fault but they make no comment on this and just offer to replace it.

It is a shame because it is a nice looking product that boils water very quickly and quietly. I would not recommend this to anyone. Save your money and get a cheaper product. It will last longer and be a lot less hassle.

A VERY HIGH QUALITY KETTLE, A BIT ON THE HEAVY SIDE, ESPECIALLY WHEN FULL.
LOVELY LID OPENING ACTION, AND THE WATER AMOUNT INDICATOR GIVES OFF A LOVLEY GLOW WHEN SWITCHED ON
NOT THAT FAST TO HEAT UP, AND ALSO NOT THAT QUIET, BUT A VERY COOL BIT OF KIT
    COMES WITH 3 YR WARRANTY

I have now had two of these kettles and both have leaked into the electrical base. The first one burned out element with an extremely loud bang. The idea of water running through an electrical system scares the hell out of me. Not that safety should be compromised at any price, but this kettle is expensive and yet it fails even the most basic function. I will never buy anything Magimix again.

Had this kettle for less than a month now and we've already had two problems.

The first was when the switch refused to remain latched in so it wouldn't boil, I got all set up to send it back but gave it one last go (after not using it for for 4 days) and it worked.

Second was the button to release the lid got harder to use suddenly and within the day it doesn't work at all, this time it is going back.

...When its working it a lovely looking, if slightly heavy' kettle. The lid opens wide for filling, the twin steel walls prevents you getting burnt, the handle is comfortable etc etc. But at 3-4 times the price of a decent 'cheap' kettle it needs to be much, much more reliable than this.

Magimix need to get a hold of whichever low-cost manufacturer they use to make these kettles and get the quality sorted out. Then it might be worth the money. Until then I can't recommend anyone to buy this kettle.

I bought this kettle to replace the fancy-looking but useless Siemens Porsche kettle, which died very young.

It is so refreshing to use a well-designed and well-built product, after weeks of struggling with the Siemens junk.

This kettle pours faultlessly (no dribbles even if you try), boils quickly, has a sensible and non-fiddly lid-opening and -closing mechanism, has a lid with rubber seals, and has a double-skinned stainless steel wall, to stop the outside of the kettle from reaching scalding point. The lid opens wide enough to get a large man's hand inside for cleaning (important in hard water areas).

    Worth the money.
