A copy of this book was left at our house by mistake and after flicking through the pages to check out the refreshingly different illustrations I started to read the text. To say it is un- put- downable doesn't do it justice ! I'm in no doubt that this book will touch many children and adults too. Now I'm just waiting to hear that the film rights are up for grabs ! Thank you M.J.W and Daisy Brooke ! You are quite the team the children's book market have needed for an age !

Format: Paperback
Magikal Mindwell is the story of young boy called Charlie who is disconnected from his peers and life in general. The author takes you on a journey of the boys self discovery where he is able to change his life with the help and support of an exceptional friend called Magikal Mindwell teaching him strategies to develop his positive thinking and helping him to gradually shelve his self-sabotaging behaviour. As a teacher I have read this to my current class and I have seen first hand the amazing impact of this story. Children, boy or girl, are able to identify with Charlie's lot and take on board the stratgies that Magikal is teaching Charlie. They loved smashing down the wall of negative self-talk and wanted to create the rainbow wristband to put their own positive affirmations on. The illustrations are great and the children liked the simple and colourful drawings. The kids loved the Magikal rap that we watched on Youtube to go with the story [...]. A fantastic first book by this innovative new author MJW.

This is a great book and I can't recommend it enough, especially for all those kids who think "school sucks", "what's the point", "I'm bored".

Charlie is just such a boy and is in danger of opting-out of learning all together but luckily he cries for help, which arrives in a great way from Magikal Midwell. We don't know where she comes from, but she sure has exciting ways to give Charlie the confidence to learn again.

The book is short and interesting, making it appealing to kids with a limited attention span. There are lots of eye-catching colourful illustrations and once youngsters start reading they will keep going, wanting to know what will happen next.

All teachers would love to have a "teachablometer" that indicates when pupils are ready to learn.

This is a great, inspirational book for reading in class to 8-12 year olds, especially if the teacher performs the raps.

I loved reading this book, and the illustrations are just fantastic! Anyone who read Roald Dahl when they were younger and can identify with day dreaming and failing to concentrate or enjoy school will understand Charlie perfectly. It isn't obvious to the reader exactly what the hidden message is behind the book, and this makes it a perfect aid in getting children to reflect on their day to day lives and perhaps realise that they have more control over their success than they first realised. In times where levels of education seem to vary hugely between school catchment areas and background, it seems all the more important that children feel they can achieve whatever they put their energy into.

An enjoyable read for any age, and if you are a teacher a definite aid for helping those individuals you struggle to get through to.
