Mainly For Magicians 27 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
Not really for the beginner, but if this is the case you will have to put in some time to learn certain slights needed for performing some of the tricks. If you already have the basic skills, then you might already know all about the excellent magical mind of Paul Curry. Well worth buying.

One trick alone is worth 10 times the price of this book 23 Nov 2008
By Ken Wax - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Get this book. Curry is admired within the magician's community; he invented one of the top 10 card tricks in the world, called 'Out of This World'.

I have amazed people for over 20 years with that trick, including groups of 50 people at dinner parties. IT'S IN THIS BOOK.

So are many other well written and very good tricks. Usually, top magic like this is only found in very expensive 'underground' magic books that you can only buy from magic stores. Seize this opportunity; you won't regret owning this book.
TRICKED!!! 29 Nov 2011
By Nathan - Published on Amazon.com

After reading what appears to be planted reviews I was fooled into buying this book. When reading the other reviews I mistakenly thought this would be a terrific magic book that teaches or explains great magic tricks. I was so WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! This is definitely NOT a practical book for anyone except perhaps a professional STAGE magician.

This is mainly a history book with only a handful of practical tricks. The book has a total of 259 pages. Pages 1-94 is only about the HISTORY of magic with reference to professional stage props that were used many many years ago. The remainder of the book does describe numerous stage magic along with a few decent closeup tricks that have been explained better in other books. The famous "Out of this world" trick doesn't come up until page 239 (almost the very end of the book). Furthermore, it was not explained that well. If you get the book "Scarne On Card Tricks" you will find a much better explanation on this and many other great card tricks. If you're a professional and don't mind bringing helpers to carry heavy furniture to a stage perhaps you can find some use for this book.

The copyright is 1965 and as stated in the book "originally published: New York: Franklin Watts. 1956". In other words the material is very very old. That by itself doesn't make it bad because many great effects were created before most of us were born. However, most of the magic explained is not at all practical for anyone except perhaps professional magicians. There are several stage illusions described but they are not practical for most ordinary people.

In spite of this being such a bad book, I learned a valuable lesson. Never ever buy a book that you can't see first (or at least browse through the 1st ten pages). From now on my magic books will be bought at a store where I can see what I'm getting.
Fascinating for non-magicians 7 Mar 2011

I was completely fascinated by the whole book, and I'm not a magician. He really draws you into a wonderful world.
