I ordered this book based on seeing an episode of "Simply Quilts" which showcased Bethany's technique and her quilts. I almost never buy a book without seeing it first, but in this case the quilts shown on TV were gorgeous and the technique appeared simple and fast -- I was sold. I was NOT disappointed! I received the book one afternoon and by the next afternoon had purchased fabric and put together all the kaleidoscope blocks for a wall hanging. I am hooked. I have the fabric for another bed sized quilt in the book and now look at large scale print fabrics in a different light. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Really Is Magic 12 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Bethany,
I can't sing the praises of your method or this book enough - your writing flows wonderfully and the directions are clear enough for anyone to follow. I saw you on Simply Quilts & bought the book unseen which I rarely, if ever do. It was a very wise decision on my part. My main worry was that none of my fabrics would be appropriate for your technique but as I am finding out from reading the book and trying your method I was worrying for nothing.
I think the only problem I will have with this book and your magic method is deciding how many of each project I am going to do.
Thank you for a wonderful technique, beautiful illustrations and a clear well written book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kaleidescope quilts everyone can make. 26 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As a self-taught quilter, I'm always on the lookout for books that offer solid techniques. Bethany Reynolds gives us not only that, but a blast of creativity that carries you off the page and into your fabric stash. For any quilter looking for ways to stretch her talents and try a new technique, this is the perfect book. It's very clearly illustrated, fabric requirements are thoughtfully provided (thanks for doing the math, Bethany!)and several size options are provided for each design. This is the book I dream over whenever I'm not actually quilting.

I can't rave enough about this book. It worked on four different levels for me. First, it is fast -- I finished a twin-bed-sized quilt top in less than a weekend. Second, it allowed me to use up fabric that had been hanging around my stash for years -- I didn't know why I bought it. Now I can make a great quilt with what would have been waste fabric before. Third, it's like doing a mystery quilt, but in a weekend. You have no idea what the top will look like until it's done. And last, it's fun, fun, fun. My daughters keep coming into my sewing room to see if I have another set ready to put together. They want to arrange the pieces to make the block. Now all I hear is, "Can we try this with another fabric?" The only problem is, what am I going to do with all these quilt tops?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant book for Kaleidescope lovers 23 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Bravo to Bethany!! I purchased this book and have found after reading through it and following the very thorough instructions these quilts are very easy to make and you can get so many different ideas for designs by looking at the fabric in a new light which is what Bethany says may happen after making one of these quilts. I went and purchased fabric today that I normally wouldn't have bought and put it to the test and after having cut and placed the pieces this fabric is now very nice to look at in this pattern. this is one book I did not regret buying

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool! Easy Kaleidoscopes! 24 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have already had WAY too much fun with this book! I have had to order several more pieces of fabric (like I need more) because I am intrigued with the results I obtain using Bethany's techniques. I have found this book to be surprisingly easy to follow; the instructions are well thought out and very well illustrated. I also thought that the addition of instructions on how to organize a workshop using this technique were great! My only problem is that I can't seem to stop Stacking and Whacking!

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive Technique 23 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Once you make one quilt by this technique, you won't be able to stop! Yes, it does take a bit of reading and thought to learn the basics. Once you do it, you're hooked. The step-by-step instructions give all the information you need to have a successful product on your first try. I have finished one, but I have fabric purchased for 4 others!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, easy - awesome results 6 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This technique is too cool! I hate making quilts with the same pattern, but making a sampler is a cutting nightmare. This is the best of both worlds. Each square is sewed the same, but they all look so different once completed, I couldn't wait to sew the next square.I'll be making many more of these.
