4.0 out of 5 stars Kids will love it and great value for money. 11 Jan 2009
By A. Moriarty VINE VOICE
I felt compelled to write this review when reading the prevoius one which I feel was very misleading.

First of all, please don't buy this expecting to hear the voices of Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue. These 'stars' were only used for the feature film and this is a boxset of two DVDs with episodes from the animated series. The previous reviewer must have been reviewing the film and NOT this boxset.

Also, please don't buy this expecting to here the narration of Eric Thompson. It is not the original series but the second remake. The original series is still the best and I too hunger for a release of these much loved episodes on DVD, still relying on the crackly videos which I had to pay an arm and a leg for on eBay as this is the only way to view them at present.

All this aside, these new episodes are really very good and your kids will love them. They stay true to the essence of the original Magic Roundabout with Florence still trying to teach Dougal to be better. Dylan is the same, lovable sleepy Rabbit, Brian the equally lovable stuffy snail and Ermintrude, the Opera-singing flower-munching cow. Only Zebadee the ('Mexican looking'!!!!) springy magician is different, being more mischievous and less like the school master in the original series.

The animation is as good as you would expect wth todays CGI technology and kids will love the bright colours and aspect. The story lines are pretty good too.

Lastly, for two DVD's you really can't complain at £6.98. What excellent value, and I for one will be buying the next instalments for my children and watching them with them too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Magic Roundabout...gone are the good old days! 4 Dec 2008
Having been in a bit of a hurry when I ordered this, I missed the fact that it was a re-make of the cult childrens show from the seventies...
My mistake, but while watching my dissapointment grew, no matter how fabulous the cast (Robbie Williams, Kylie et al!)is-it still lacks both in personality and quality.
The CG animations are well executed, but feel very synthetic-I miss the animated puppets (even the odd showing piece of string!)and the psycedelic dynamics they created.
For smaller kids, this may even be a bit too much "in your face" and OTT as far as colours and pace are concerned. Even though the storylines are simple, som effects are a bit much..the red mexican-looking Jack in the box (his name escapes me...)scares even me!
I hope they will re-release the original on dvd!
I for one will buy it-no matter the cost!
This?!-Nah, save your money and get In the night garden instead, at least if it's dreamy psycedelia you are after!
