Inspired by leading man Channing Tatum’s real-life background in male stripping, before he hit it big in the movies, Magic Mike is an accomplished, rounded slice of often-delicious entertainment. It’s also the kind of film that’s set to be enjoyed time and time again.
At the heart of it are a bunch of men who strip for a living. They include a buffed-up Matthew McConaughey, the aforementioned Tatum, and the new young entrant to their profession, played by Alex Pettyfer. Each of them is convincing in their roles, and looking non-too-shabby.
Yet Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, has far more in its locker than a straight hour or two of men taking their clothes off. The film digs into the lives of the leading men when they’re off the stage, in the case of Tatum’s lead character, the difficulty of romance, too. That makes Magic Mike both deeper and a little uneven, certainly. But its proverbial finger is never far from the entertainment button.
The disc release is hardly exhaustive, but it does have extra behind the scenes material that’s worth taking a look at. It’s all got a promotional sheen on it, and it’s disappointing the extras don’t go much further than that. But Magic Mike is still a fine release, and a strong film. --Jon Foster

What a fantastic film. Ladies, you won't be sorry.
The story isn't perhaps the deepest you will ever see, it simply acts as a filler in between some of the finest examples of manhood seen on the big screen.
I only have two requests for the blu-ray edition:
1) Please ensure there is a Triple Play option. I need to have this film accessible on every device I own.
2) Please ensure there is a 'stripping only' feature on the disc - I would like to skip over the story bits and just see the men doing their thing.

When I heard about this film, I have to admit that I thought 'this is going to be bad.' Can there be anything worse than an actor thinking, hey why not make a film about a four month episode in my adolescence? Well, I admit it, I was wrong because this is actually a great movie.
Based on the short-lived adolescence experience of actor/producer Channing Tatum [who had the good sense to get out before things got messy], this is a story of the dark side of the American Dream. Matthew McConnaugh excels as strip-club boss Dallas, whipping up a storm, epitomising American consumerism; and almost reminisant of a brothel madam exhibiting his male courtesans. Of course Channing Tatum reminding me why I fell for his brand of physical acting, with some of the best dance routines you'll ever see.
If people tell you this is the story of Adam [Alex Pettyfer], then they are fibbing. The story's arch is Mike's, and in todays recession struck economy it's hard not to sympathise with his predicament. If there is a fault, then this is it. The script doesn't seem to know who's story it is telling, and it becomes a bit messy in the second half. What it makes so powerful was Adam's scene talking about 'freedom' to a silent Mike. The choice is stark: does Mike want the freedom to sleep with who he wants etc; or the freedom from that dead-end road?
It's not as sexually explicit as people make out. But I will admit to Channing having a bum I would like to grab a hold of!

yo ya'll this film is dope n just cus u a guy it don't make u gay liking it as channing tatums cool and brings some fresh moves. the best parts about this movie are the more dramatic elements tho that spring up as the movie progresses. would defo recommend to nyone but of course u girls are gonna love it more than most fellas will lol.

Great
Delivery was fast, the inside of the case was broken and the disk had come loose but the disk was working fine so i wasn't really bothered by it.

There was no interesting story line. There was no tension between the two lovers. The dance scenes were ho um. The acting was adequate.

Bought as a Gift
