Book Description

18 July 2002
Maggie Sweet has had enough. For nearly 19 years, she's kept house, lived her husband's dour taste in home decor, and humoured his humourless mother. If only she could see into the future...there is a hope of a second chance at life.

Maggie Sweet was a happy surprise for me and I hope to find more books by Judith Minthorn-Stacy. I found myself being transported to Poplar Grove in America's Southland. The story is both sad and funny, the language eloquent and original.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, light, quick reading. 14 Jan 2002
By Cheer Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Any woman who is in her 40's who has had a marriage that didn't quite live up to her dreams will find a soul mate in Maggie Sweet. Always doing the right thing and being a good girl doesn't mean that life is fair. It isn't. Maggie suddenly comes to that realization when she hears that her first and only true love is coming back into town for their 20 year high school reunion. All of sudden, Maggie realizes that her safe secure marriage is nothing more than being stuck with a boring old pretentious cheapskate - and his absolutely horrible snob of a mother.

While the different quirky characters are not unique (you'll recognize the town gossip, the spinster schoolmarms, the best friend with a heart as big as gold) - they are entertaining and the story is told in a very charming way - it's a wonderful little story about coming of age (no matter what your age is). 4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Read 26 Jun 2001
By Donna M. Hall - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I read the first couple of pages of this book to get a good feel for it when it was given to me. I was immediately captured and drawn in by the characters... so much that I still haven't finished the book I was already reading. I grew to love Maggie and hate everything and everyone that stood in her way. It was an easy read and I greatly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this as light summer reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming, heart warming and funny. 4 Oct 1999

Format:Paperback
Fun and easy to read. Enjoyed the characters and southern dialogue. Maggie is an unhappy housewife who begins to assert herself and finally take charge of her life. A very entertaining read.
