5.0 out of 5 stars Don't know why this company(Magellan) gets such a bumb rap.... and Amazon has kicked it up a notch too! 2 July 2013

What a super device! And the free software updates are working great. It's only a matter of a one-time download/install of the Update Manager software and I am notified with a desktop pop-up; from there it's a simple click followed by another click and it's a done deal. I've done one software system upgrade and two map upgrades so far. The speed and accuracy of the unit is unmatched.

I like the voice giving directions but especially like the confirming 'ding' for making a turn and the fact that it pinpoints the location of the car/person (in walking mode) within six feet.

Last, but FAR from least, is the Amazon pre-purchase support I received. I never used the option before thinking it was just another point-of-purchase gimmick but I did call the toll free number that appeared on the web page (it's not always there because the experts are not always available) and proceeded to have a great conversation about several manufacturers, units, codes and their designations, etc. Wow, what a real expert he was and he had 'test driven' this unit with several competing brands for a hands-on, real-time experience. He did NOT work on a commission basis and gave me his number for any follow-up questions, concerns, problem resolutions and post-purchase issues. This new, free service far outweighs the fact that Amazon is opening a store in my state at the end of the year which means they will be including state tax at that point.

Summary: Great Price; Great Unit; Great Online Seller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good GPS but with a persistent slow responsiveness 4 Mar 2014
By Saeed Ali - Published on Amazon.com
I got this unit as replacement to a bad Magellan 2136 that was still under warranty. So, I have to commend Magellan on good customer service.
Both units have the same issue, slow responsiveness to your clicks(presses) to the point where it can be annoying sometimes. Also the 2136 had a better(louder) speaker.

Other than that, I like the units very much. I like the interface and the display. The speed/traffic camera warning(not very accurate, but close to where the cameras are) is helpful. Also, using the landmark in the spoken direction is very nice.

Personally, the ability to plot a multi point destination and optimize them is the what sold the unit. I know Garmin or Tomtom does not have that feature and it's a must for my job.

I will buy again, I just hope they upgrade the processor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment squared 3 Nov 2013

I purchased this GPS in February of 2013 as a replacement for my 4 year old Maestro with a growing dead pixel splotch. The first thing I noticed was the map seems terribly outdated as it does not show the roads around the high school where I work. My old one did show them. Hoping to cure that with the "free" map update that Content Manager tells me I need every time I turn on my computer, I set about doing that. Several emails to the Magellan tech department and 8 months later I still get the message but I have not been able to get the map. The description of what I need to do to get it from the tech dept. reads like a computer programmers dream and it's just not worth what it would cost me to hire a guru to come do it for me. Ditto for the instructions on how to get my AAA warranty extension so I will forego that.

On the only programmed trip I have attempted it told be a right turn in 170 feet when I was 10 feet from the intersection and my destination was on the right in 1/8th mile when I was directly in front of it.

So far I'm very disappointed with it and the Magellan service on this unit. This is my 3rd Magellan in 10 years and I was hoping for much better based on my previous experience.

Described the GPS for truckers, but end up with the one for everyday car. Going to try to send back to try to get the right one at same price
