Book Description

Marisa Merico, the daughter of one of Italy's most notorious Mafia Godfathers, was dazzled by her father, Emilio DiGiovine. To her he was all powerful, sophisticated and loving; to the rest of the world he was staggeringly ruthless. Marisa knew her father would do anything for her, but she hadn't expected just how much he would ask in return.

Born to an English mother, Marisa turned her back on her quiet life in Blackpool to join her charming father, Emilio DiGiovine, who had spent years trying to tempt her back to Italy. Arriving in Milan, Marisa had no idea she was returning to the heart of one of the most notorious drugs, arms and money laundering empires in the world.

At first her father shielded her from the family operations and Marisa was overwhelmed by the attention and gifts he lavished on her. But soon the temptation of a new recruit was too great and Marisa was drawn ever deeper into the family's sinister and brutal regime, witnessing things she was too scared to believe.

The day she eloped with her father's chief henchman was the day her father decided she was ready to be initiated into the true nature of the family business. Suddenly Marisa saw there was no limit to what he would expect her to do for him. She knew it was wrong, she knew she had to get out, but she had no idea how she could break the sacred Coda Nostra – and survive.

Marisa's extraordinarily story is the most powerful portrayal of a Mafia family to emerge in recent years. It's the perfect balance of shocking violence, dangerous betrayals and enduring love.

About the Author

Marisa Merico was born to an English mother who had run away to Italy and married Emilio DiGiovanni. When her mother got too deep in the family’s operations she escaped back home to Blackpool, telling her daughter her father was a good-for-nothing petty thief. Marisa’s father, the Mafia Godfather of one of Italy most feared families, was determined to get Marisa back. Marisa returned to Italy, fell in love with her father’s chief henchman and eloped with him to get married. Soon she was neck-deep in the family’s terrifying operations with no way to escape. Then, suddenly, an auntie turned supergrass and Marisa, her father and 90 other members of the DiGiovine family were imprisoned in a 6-month trial that gripped Italy. Marisa is now out of prison and lives in Blackpool with her daughter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe this actually happened! 3 Mar. 2011
This isn't usually something I would read, but after becoming abit bored of the books I usually buy (chick-lit), I decided to have a go at this one.

I am left shocked that this actually happened and even though I have never seen The Godfather, I imagined this book is what it's like. Marisa tells this story really well and I found it very easy to read.

The one thing I disliked about this book was the last quarter or so where she seems to change character and I found it was as if she wasn't the same person. Granted, the stuff she's been through made her one tough cookie and in some instances, she had to change, but some of things she thinks or says or does annoyed me. However, it's a very captivating book and a big insight into the mafia world back in the 80's.

I would recommend this book to anybody looking for an interesting read that's very fast paced, but is very easy to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mafia aprincess 11 Feb. 2011
Mafia Princess is a reverting book - couldnt put it down even when I was cooking. This story really opened my eyes and shows u really can't judge people unless u know the truth. I saw the review (person who was telling her life)on tv which made me buy this book to finish off the story.

3.0 out of 5 stars It spreads everywhere... 15 Nov. 2010
The tentacles of the Mafia spread far and wide and it seems that Marisa Merico didn't escape them either. This is a good read for the sole purpose of knowing what is lurking in ones own neighborhood and how there are no boundaries as far as the mafia goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars mafia princess 3 Nov. 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This was a very good but unusual story. It read more like fiction than fact. I'm surprised it has not been made into a film. I think it would be a Blockbuster.

The story centres around a young girl/woman born to an English mother and an Italian Mafia father. she is worshipped by her paternal grandmother, who has a great influence on her. The grandmother dominates her Mafia family. The girl eventually becomes involved in Mafia activities.

I would recommend this book highl

4.0 out of 5 stars Has the ring of truth but I have some doubts 4 Mar. 2011
By Roy Brookes VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This story has the ring of truth but there are some parts where I became doubtful whether it was all the truth, the whole truth and nothing but ... I have had my own experiences with the Mafia and know a little bit more about them than most and a couple of things in the book are debatable. I shall not say what for private reasons. That said, I think she did live through most of what she describes and I found the book very interesting. It does tend to run out of steam when everyone in sight gets arrested, as another reviewer hinted. It is also important to note that this is not the Cosa Nostra but the Calabrian Mafia, similar to but not quite the same as the Sicilian version or the Camorra. However, a good rollicking read.

This is an easy-to-read story of how Marisa Merico became a Mafia 'princess' and lived this life in an extensive Mafia family.
The story has many twists and turns and maintains one's interest throughout. Even those who claim some knowledge of the
Mafia through earlier reading or travel in Sicily or Calabria will be amazed by the way of life described.
