Germany released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), German ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: Black & White, Interactive Menu, SYNOPSIS: A classic in gothic-romantic excess, Madonna of Seven Moons was one of the most successful British films of its genre. Though she doesn't know it at first, young convent-bred Rosalinda (Phyllis Calvert) has been born under a curse: before her life comes to a close, she will be wife, mother and mistress all in one. As a child, Rosalinda is raped by a gypsy, an experience that renders her a schizophrenic. Years later, she is the seemingly contented wife of prosperous Italian businessman Giuseppe (John Stuart) and the mother of attractive teenager Angela (Patricia Roc). From time to time, however, Rosalinda disappears from her home and retreats to the slums of Florence, where she assumes the identity of lustful gypsy girl Maddelina, the mistress of criminal leader Nino (Stewart Granger). Then she returns to her husband and daughter, completely unaware of her "other" self or even that she's been absent. Understandably curious about her mother's long absences, Angela follows Rosalinda during one of her sojourns into the Florentine underworld. Far from home and hearth, poor Angela is targetted for seduction by Sandro (Peter Glenville)--the very gypsy who'd assaulted the younger Rosalinda! And just when it seems that things can't get any more unbelievable?..well, this one is definitely better seen than described. Originally released at 100 minutes, Madonna of Seven Moons was expertly cut to 88 minutes for US consumption. ...Madonna of the Seven Moons

This was purchased for Christmas for my 90 year old disabled aunt who saw the film in 1946 she remembered it almost scene by scene before I bought it, I was,nt sure if it would have English language as a choice, being a French version, but come Christmas everything was fine and she thoroughly enjoyed it, although I found it very old fashioned it was re-produced pretty well on DVD, perhaps not every ones cup of tea though.

I've been looking for this movie on DVD for several years. The DVD-R version from Retro Flix is very basic; it does not include any menus or extras. However the black and white images are excellent and the sound quality is very good. Thanks to Retro Flix for making this movie available on DVD!

A classic B movie 14 Nov 2011

First saw this film on TV a hundred years ago as a teenager. Has stayed with me ever since and have hoped I would see it once more. Finally it is now available on Amazon in American format DVD and I promptly bought it. The movie was just as intriguing as I remembered it - religion, guilt, sex, maternal love, violence, emotional dysfunction. What more could be asked for? The studio sets are a bit hokey but this is a post WWII British film and should be forgiven.
