We used this map every day while driving a hire car and for getting around on the island's bus network. It's amazing the number of seemingly remote places you can access by bus and it does make doing linear walks easy to plan. I would recommend using this map along with Walk! Madeira or Shirley Whitehead's Madeira Walks - plus the Madeira Tour & Trail Map (same publisher). It is such a cost-effective way to add fun and value to your holiday.

Looking at this influenced our decision not to hire a car and to use public transport instead. A good decision as the roads were steep, narrow and winding and travelling over the island by bus was fairly cheap and great fun.
