This book is great for people who are a little tired of all that client work. If you feel like you need to create something that's more 'you' then you may find this book an interesting starting point. Covering many different topics, it showcases personal projects from a large number of designers. Some have been created for personal gain; some to help others; and some, just for the hell of it! As a designer, you're in the amazing position of being able to create things. That sounds obvious, but think about it. If your non-designer mate wants to buy a t-shirt with the words 'Amazing Graham' across the front he'll need help. Lot's of help. But for you, the fact that the t-shirt doesn't exist yet is an opportunity. Go and make the t-shirt.
I thought this book was super fun and full of great stuff. The best thing about it is that it lists all the websites you can buy the products from so you don't have to spend hours searching the internet! The Toys chapter was my favourite!
I had read the reviews of this in various specialist magazines for Art & Design and most seemed quite positive. Having had a flick through the book when it arrived I must say I was slightly disappointed with content. There was nothing new in here that I hadn't seen before and there weren't many inspirational designs.
