This children's story really didn't capture my imagination as I expected it to. The storyline was interesting but I would have preferred a longer novel with more in-depth character and setting development. This probably has more to do with my own personal tastes in children's literature so don't let that put you off wanting to read this.
The shortness of the story (I read this quickly one night in about an hour) would suggest that it might be suitable for readers who are around 7-9 years old but as a teacher I found a lot of the words that were used unsuitable for the average child of that age to read independently (i.e. euphorically, subatomically, malevolence, gastronomic). This book might best be read aloud to children around that age group with parents/teachers/grandparents creating discussions along the way about the plot and some of the words used, to help aid their understanding.
