Fun:
The MadCatz controller for the Xbox 360 is a great idea but really badly executed. The PS3 one has no rumble but is wireless and the Xbox 360 controller has rumble but is wired. The PS3 paddle has terrible reviews on Amazon and from my point of view this will fare no better.

When you get the controller out of the packaging (which is not easy as it is in that vac packed plastic) it feels good in the hand. It has a digital camouflage finish and has a pleasing rubbery feel. As it has no battery pack it feels fairly light. The cable is finished in a black nylon style rope finish. The triggers underneath more like gun triggers and it has pleasingly placed extra buttons just behind the main triggers. It also comes with a little black ammo box to keep the controller in when not being used. Which is fairly useless but a nice idea.

When you plug it in it lights up in bright luminescent green under the Ls and RS pads. These are pretty bright and look OK. Not as good as in the pictures mind. The problems really start though when you try to play the game. The D pads are weirdly set up. Sometimes I end up crawling forwards or to the side without being able to stop. This drives you crazy when you have someone in your sites. Moving backwards is not responsive but forwards is twitchy. This random movement happens 50% of the time. And even without your hands on the controller.

The extra game buttons are useful, particularly for running and reloading on the fly. But the usefulness of these is totally offset by the ridiculous placing of RB and LB. Running with the buttons behind the triggers is good but then the benefit of this is ruined by the difficulty in throwing a grenade. The new triggers are set further back than on the standard controller and they have added a stretch of blank plastic between the triggers and RB and LB. This means it is nearly impossible to reach the buttons. Much much harder than on the standard Xbox 360 controller. The RB and LB buttons are just besides the triggers there. Here your fingers have a huge stretch to throw a flashbang or grenade. It makes it nearly impossible. And I have big hands!

Most importantly how does it affect the game? Last night on the standard controller I was consistently in the top 3 players. Today I am consistently last. The movement is erratic, the RB and LB buttons positioned idiotically and the D pad needs a lot of pushing to select a UAV etc.

This controller is very expensive for a wired controller. Combined with the appalling set up and usability I would really recommend that you skip it and stick with the standard Xbox360 game pad. I am sending this back tonight. 1 hour on this is enough and has totalled my Kill/Death ratio......

Pros:
Looks good and feels good in the hand
Nice triggers

Cons:
Wired gamepad
Expensive
Crazy positioning of the LB and RB making them hard to use
Jittery movement from the controller all on its own making aiming impossible
Unresponsive D Pad

Mad Catz Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Wired GamePad - Black (Xbox 360)

Review is the opinion from my son, mine is on price and delivery
Controller is excellent more comfortable than the original, programmable buttons are a bit small and awkwardly placed this could be improved. He is an avid games player and this controller combined with the Call of Duty series is an excellent combination. As an added note he uses it for all other games as well. Price is about par for this item, delivery by Amazon was as usual excellent. Additional information the first controller i purchased was on the release date for my son as an Xmas present so it was not opened until then, it was found that the wire at the controller end had an intermittent fault, contacted amazon on the 27th December to RMA... replacement controller delivered 29th December with Amazon's apologies... Kudos to Amazon's customer service... wish all online returns were that efficiently handled.

Fun:
Firstly I'll start off by saying that the ideas in this pad are excellent! The combat buttons in theory would give you that split second advantage that is very often the difference between life and death in games like CoD, plus there's an element of choice too so you can arrange the controls so that you never have to take your thumbs off the sticks - sounds great so far. Also Madcatz made an excellent choice using the official sticks which means it feels very similar to the official pad, so you won't have to change the way you aim after its "broken in".

Unfortunately they've made some fatal errors: (bear in mind I would say I have averaged size hands/fingers - if you have smallish or very large hands then some of this may not apply)

1) BUMPER BUTTONS (RB/LB) - Only extend about 4mm from the top of the pad and require a lot of pressure compared to the official pad, where you could literally brush the button to press it in. With the Madcatz pad the pressure involved to press it down combined with the position of the triggers means you have a lot of movement required to press the button and force to then press it down (with the official pad you could pivot the index finger whilst resting it on the trigger to press the bumper button - no chance of doing that with this!)

2) TRIGGERS - These are simply set too far back,if you want to use it without the combat buttons being available you can cope with it just about. However, the way they are positioned with the combat buttons it was both incredibly uncomfortable for my index finger to press them in completely with my middle finger on the combat button and it was actually pushing my middle finger off the combat button after it was fully depressed.

3) COMBAT BUTTON - Really good idea but they're tiny! I mean tiny literally 5mm in diameter and placed too far forward for me at least. I like the idea and customization which allows you to never have to take your thumbs off the sticks, but they've made a poor design choice with the position - Or may be I don't have averaged sized hands, and will have to re-evaluate

So in conclusion I would say there are a few other minor flaws but nothing worthy of mention, the build quality is good and potential is excellent but "TRY BEFORE YOU BUY" - if you have a friend or games store where you can try it then do so, and if it feels fine go for it. But, if you're sitting at home reading this then take heed and don't do what I did ( I bought it on pre-order! Based off what I though were reliable reviews!). ( I gave 1 star to lower the overall score in order that people might read the reviews first if it was right for me I would have given it 4/5 - But I think for many it will be a waste of money)

Faulty
Recieved this on time, however it was faulty, with loose parts inside and it turns itselt off quite offen. I do not recommend buying from buyer without contact with them.

That took a long time
Shame the pad sounds pretty ropey - because the 'combat buttons' are something I built into an old Xbox pad years ago to remap white and black to be usable in Midnight Club. Read more

The controller is AWFUL.
The grips on the side are the only good thing, The buttons at the back are to hard to press in a tight situation. So it makes them useless and the shoot buttoms are to slippery. Read more
