Although labelled a quickstart guide, this book is really better used as a reference guide. It's not really the step-by-step to creating sites that beginners to Dreamweaver might be seeking.
For those of us who know the basics this books is good for delving into to find hints and tips that we might not have otherwise realised Dreamweaver was capable of. If you need to know how a particular function works, or how to go about a particular task this book will show you.
No, it doesn't include advanced subjects, such as databases, timelines etc. The author mentions in the text that such subjects will be covered in the Visual QuickPro guide. The book is 700 pages long already, even without the coverage of these topics, which many users will never even need to use anyway.
Another reviewer scoffed that "Layer tags that even Netscape 6 no longer supported are still extolled." If that person had thought to read the actual chapter they would have seen that layers are in fact part of Cascading Style Sheets and Dynamic HTML (CSS-P) and as such the information on layers is bang up to date.
In my opinion this book is excellent, but as it doesn't hold your hand, as such, beginners may feel a little "blinded with science."
