1.0 out of 5 stars Not a book for beginners!!, 18 Aug 2003
This review is from: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Unleashed (Paperback)
Just sat down to start using Dreamweaver MX with this book by my computer. I used Dreamweaver for about 6 months nearly three years ago and bought this book to teach me the basics again. But it's way too advanced for a complete or false beginner!! For a start it doesn't come with a CD-Rom so it doesn't offer any interactive lessons. It also seems to assume that you are already really familiar with Dreamweaver. So my advice is if you're a practising Dreamweaver user and need more advanced help buy it, if you're a beginner stay well away!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Concise, 11 April 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Unleashed (Paperback)
At long last a book that does not waste words in describing DreamWeaver MX's functions but explains how to use them.

I wanted a book to help me move from Dreamweaver3 and teach me how to use the dynamic functionality of MX. Unleashed does both.

The basics are covered in far fewer pages than other DreamWeaver MX books yet nothing is missed out. The sections become progressively more complex moving the reader from static sites, through interactivity (DHTML, Flash, etc.) to database driven pages.

Roughly a third of the book is taken up with MX's dynamic capabilities and how to harness them. The authors tackle some seriously complex subjects (ASP, SQL) so clearly that I have started doing "back end" database jobs. Not bad for someone who knew nothing about databases before he bought the book.

Also, I had answers to my questions on photo albums, accessibility issues and database connectivity fundamentals within a couple of hours of reading.

Not a good choice for newbies but indispensible for experienced users looking to extend their use of DreamWeaver.

I'm picky but I can't fault this book. And the publishers' support web site is good too.
