You cannot even try to compare another product to flash mx 2004 unless it is a previous version of flash, nothing is anything like it. Top companies such as microsoft and any top company use this to create proffessional components for their websites, be it intros, dynamic menus or applications, flash does it all. Average, normall people use it aswell as it is simple and the results are amazing. I have flash mx aswell as this and must say that the improvements are vast, unlike other companies macromedia have actually listened to their customers. This new version of flash includes a much improved overall interface, before you had to spend ages scrolling through components, it is now grouped and is much easier to navigate. The new actionscipt v.2 is much easier to use aswell. They have also added a new optional design interface which will be very popular with powerpoint converted users. It is a frames down the left which resembles that of powerpoint, so all the power point animation people can find it easier to use. Also for the people who love swish, they have added new timeline effects similar to that used of swish, so now you can just say 'fly in from the left' and it creates the whole effect for you. Not only are there loads of new features, it is now twice as fast as before when watching the animations aswell! So the content loads faster. The features featured in the pro version only will only be usefull to proffessionals so this is a good choice.

The first thing you do is go to the web and find lots of fantastic things. You come to this site where they have games, cartoons etc. and you wonder, "how do they make all these things". Well, most people think nothing and just play on but people with a creative mind or who have lots of interest would try to find out what the page is made of. Very often, interesting web pages contain Macromedia Flash components. The program that generates these animations is called Flash MX.

Flash MX includes animating objects, using Actionscript (V.2), editing vector and pixel graphics and using video. Drawing in Flash is different from Photoshop and other programs because it uses vector graphics. Animating in Flash is different from doing frame by frame animation (like a gif animation). To animate, you need to use motion tween or shape tween in a timeline panel, the area where you scroll through the frames. To do that, you just need to make a few frames, add a key frame, right click- motion tween and then move the object around. Using Actionscript is harder. Actionscript is a programming language to something similar to javascript. To use video in Flash there is no point in using another program to edit the length, lighting and quality because you can do it in Flash anyway!

Working with Flash is a bit tricky at the start. Especially if you are a person who has no patience. Flash MX can be used to build detailed web sites, presentations, web applications and a lot more. If you are not really interested in animations this is not the program for you. It takes time to learn and understand how to use it. If you want to be a professional animator then Flash MX is the right tool for you.

Flash MX is made by Macromedia (www.macromedia.com). Other products from Macromedia for example are Dreamweaver for web page design and Fireworks for manipulating images.
