The Macrobiotic Approach to Cancer has 179 pages and was published firstly in 1981 and the book I read in 1991. Without doubt it is a book which has a great deal of information . So far as I am aware I do not have Cancer, but many of my friends do and I am very interested in healthy diets and lifestyle, it was for this reason I was interested to read this book. The friends I know who are suffering from this terrible disease are all following doctors orders and do not share my view about this lifestyle. Many refuse to accept the issue of animnal products, I think more so since I have been a lifelong vegetarian and they think Im trying to convert them. I was infact a veggie because I just have never liked meat, it used to make me wretch when my mother insisted I eat it. I dont have a problem with keeping and killing animals so long as its in a humain way, but I do truly believe we are not natural carnivores, just look at the way our body is designed; a little meat occasionally would be ok for those who wish to, but not the way we have gone. Then ofcourse it makes sense to take plant food as near to the way it was grown as possible.
So this book is interesting to read with a great deal of good information. It has no recipes though.
I hope those who read this book, if they are in the unfortunate possition of being a Cancer sufferer, all the very best and much love in their lives to overcome their horrid situation.

The book is fantastic but a bit radical. I have learnt a lot. This book is good to understand about the history of macrobiotic and general understanding of how it works .

Excellent Nutrition! 15 Dec. 2013
By T. Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
When my husband was stage IV-D Hodgkins Disease with bone marrow involvement, I started him on macrobiotics during his chemotherapy. He was so debilitated he could not walk or care for himself, he had to be carried to the bathroom and I had to brush his teeth. Within 1 week of starting the diet he was back being able to walk and care for himself, it was astounding! His oncologists were convinced I was killing him as Macrobiotics is the polar opposite of how they tell you to eat during chemo. To prove me wrong, they ran a battery of tests on his nutritional status. They came back hat in hand and told me that they had never seen anyone (healthy OR sick) with such ideal numbers! They told me his test results could not be improved on, that whatever I was feeding him to keep it up, they had never seen anything like it. And they certainly couldn't argue with the improvement in his physical condition. He was never expected to even make it thru chemo, let alone go into remission. He finished his chemo and went into remission. Continuued the diet for 2 years after then went back to old eating habits. Three years after that died of 2 different types of cancer caused by the combo of the radiation in 1972 and the chemo in 1986, so his oncologists say. I say his fatal mistake was his return to a typical American diet. At the very least the diet gave him 5 years he wouldn't have had otherwise, to get to know his daughter who was 7 when he died.

Read it if you have cancer. 30 Nov. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Eighteen years ago I began the macrobiotic diet and lifestyle after attending a "Diet and Cancer" seminar and having a consultation with Michio Kushi. It was 9 months after I found a lump in my breast. I also did a lot of work on myself in order to heal but the diet was/is crucial as well. I am glad I eat that way, even now! I had the lumps taken out but no radiation or chemotherapy.

Book arrived in great condition. Gave it to my daughter who is battling with cancer at this time. She really appreciated it and was already doing many of the things it suggested.

A bit of honesty, please... 26 Sept. 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Sadly, both Michio Kushi's wife and one daughter have died of cancer. Being that they were Japanese, the healthiest and longest lived people in the world, this doesn't really speak well for the diet.
However, it does seem that macrobiotics, when taken with common sense, have been known to help cancer patients, some say to the extent of "curing" them. It's easy to find examples to prove everything and the contrary (and no one mentions the ones that have died of the various deficiencies that easily befall macrobiotics followers).
Follow your own instincts... and keep in touch with a trusted doctor!
