Product Description

On most lenses, the manufacturers provide a focusing mechanism that extends only a few millimetres, partly to keep down costs and partly to restrict the lens to extensions for which its optics are optimised. To provide additional extension, one or more extension tubes can be added between the camera and the lens, to make the lens focus at closer distances and therefore produce higher magnification. This brand new Macro Extension Tube Set for SONY/ MINOLTA Digital SLR includes 3 extension tubes - 9mm, 16mm, 30mm adapters and a male & female adapter. You may mount the tubes between lens and camera body to get your choice of macro ranges. There are totally 8 combinations. Use this set will not downgrade the optical quality of your lens. Sharpness and Saturation can be still maintained. But they are not meter-coupled. They do not preserve the automatic diaphragm. It should be used with manual lenses with their own aperture dial. There is no electronic connection between the body and the lens. Automatic lenses can be used with their widest open aperture only. When using the extension ring with a SONY body, the camera should be set in the 'M' mode. FOR SONY ALPHA / MINOLTA A900 A850 A700 A550 A500 A330 A350 A300 A200 A100 , MINOLTA 7D , 5D

First of all, before you consider buying this, be sure you know how your camera works!
As long as you work in manual mode you're fine. I only use manual mode, so I haven't tested it in other modes.
It doest work, but there are two problems with it.
The first: auto focus doesn't work. But as long as you don't have moving subjects you're fine.
The second is much worse...
The aperture width is adjusted with a mechanical system that automatically goes back to almost closed. A little catch in the body of your Sony will adjust it mechanically when you screw the lens on. These tubes don't have that catch, so the aperture will be very small and your photo's will be very dark.
To fix this you have to wedge the aperture open by stuffing something behind the catch on the lens (I used a little bracket). As long as you make sure you can take it out again, you're fine.

All in all it takes some work to customize it so it really works on a Sony but once it does, it works as Macro Extension Tubes should, enabling you to get a sharp image while being much closer to the subject.
For such a small price, it's worth it in my opinion.

Ok i was a little annoyed with this, as there was nothing to tell me how to use it,
second of all it didnt work when i attached it, even after opening the aperture on the lens it just became very
blurry, so i think it need some kinda fix up, unless you know a way to get it to work otherwise dont bother getting it.
But i would say its worth what you pay, but it will just take some time before you really know how to use it.

Used for my Sony Alpha 200. Very well built, fits the body of the camera and the lens perfectly.

The problem I had was when I disconnected my lens.
My lens' aperture springs shut when the lens is disconnected from the camera. The extension tube has no catch to push the aperture open again, which means your lens will stay at minimum aperture.
I glued on a little catch for it and it works well, but just to warn you: check that you can manually set the aperture of your lens and that it doesn't spring closed when you disconnect the lens.
One more thing to note is that it has no pin connections, so you can only manually set the focus.

As the reviewer below states, the camera does indeed say 'shutter locked no lens attached', but this is in auto mode and can be overcome by switching the camera to Manual mode.

Apart from having to modify it, it takes great close-up shots. The closest my lens could focus was about 20cm away, but with this tube it can now take very close shots about 3cm from the lens.

The tube itself unscrews into 3 parts so that you can reduce the effectiveness of the focusing (if 3cm is too close).

All in all, great functionality for something that's only £[]!

This set of tubes arrived very quickly, unfortunately that is where the good news ends!! The extension tubes didn't fit my alpha 55 as described, I sent it back by recorded first class with the instruction to send me a replacement that did fit my camera. I got a refund, and an insult to my intelligence- seller was adamant that it was the correct set- I have been using Sony alphas for over 2years and I know that if a tube/lense fit's inside the camera without catching ANY of the mounting fittings, then the tube/lense is not designed to fit that camera, it looked to me that this was a set for the nex series of Sony cameras, not the alpha as described. Will purchase elsewhere in future.
