Book Description

16 Feb 2009 0230031064 978-0230031067
The tragic story of George and Lennie, who move from one farm to another, looking for work. George is clever but Lennie's size and slowness are always getting him into trouble. One day the two men get a job on a farm. Things are going well until they meet the unhappy wife of the farm foreman, Curley. Then Curley's wife tries to become friendly with Lennie. NOTE: This title is not the original version of Steinbeck’s Mice and Men. It is a Macmillan Graded Reader, which means that it is aimed at students of English as a second or a foreign language. This means it is a simplified version only, which is re-told by Martin Winks.

4.0 out of 5 stars An absolute classic 8 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A small book that should be one everybody's reading list. Of Mice and Men is an absolute classic and will be for a long time to come. The characters of George and Lennie have been echoed a thousand times over by countless other writers and it is a story of hard work, will and character itself, binded together in a great tragedy of friendship. One of my favourite books since reading at school and will be sure to be picked up again and again and again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad 16 Nov 2012

Although there were useful questions at the back, the book is not told in it's original form, which may make it hard for those using this to study GCSE to follow the text and highlight necessary information with the right quotes properly. It would have been much better if they had used the original text rather than re-telling it in "simpler" English, which made the essence of the story fade as well. But overall, there were good prompt questions at the back which were useful if you were studying the book, and the "simpler" English may have made it easier for some to understand the book better too, but I wouldn't recommend using this book if you were only reading Of Mice and Men as a storybook

3.0 out of 5 stars Old book I read at school 23 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
I love the story but this book seemed a lot shorter than the one I read at school. Think it is a bit pricey for what how short it is.
