FirstSite Web Design is intended to help you build your Web pages, easily and cheaply. You can build pages using the page wizard or start from a blank page. Items such as text, tables and so on can be dragged from the toolbox or selected from menus. Right clicking an item enables you to edit its properties. Along with the support for backgrounds, text, images, tables (including cell colours and suchlike), hyperlinks and so on you can also add Java apps and scripts. Users are able to limit the working area to different screen resolutions; on the downside, the dark, intrusive workspace design makes it uncomfortable to use. The non-standard interface makes it hard to judge your work without constant previews. Running in only full-screen mode also does FirstSite no favours.
Forms support is reasonable, and a few Java apps are supplied (though not the one used in the thin manual to show you how to use them). There are no page templates and you can't edit the source code from the program. Images aren't supplied either--no buttons, icons, rulers and so on. You could certainly use FirstSite Web Design to build your Web pages but there are better (if pricier) easy-to-use tools available, such as Web Page Construction Kit 6.0 Deluxe or even Netscape Composer. --Steve Patient
