This guide is different. It doesn't cover every species. Its not full of plate after plate of adult males sideways on. Instead it concentrates on all the hard species pairs/groups. It should be reprinted frequently since its essential reading for every birder in or visiting the UK or Europe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries Solved 8 July 2009
Format:Hardcover
MacMillan's Field Guide doesn't list all the birds you might see in Britain. Crucially, what it does is point out the areas of confusion between similar species and aid their identification by consideration of plumage, behaviour or habitat. An essential for any keen birder's day sack.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant guide 5 July 2009

There are so many identification guides around but this one is different as it contains only confusion species. It hasn't been in print for many years but is something every birdwatcher would be pleased to have on their bookshelves. It is a shame that it hasn't been reprinted as there are not many good copies in second hand bookshops or on Amazon.
