The blunt truth is, of course, that though you may be up there on the Web with everyone else, unless the big search engines are listing your site, then most of your desired viewers will never find you--instead selecting their surfing from the picks suggested by Yahoo, AltaVista and the rest. You can, of course, spend most of your working hours tailoring elements of your site to the individual tastes of hundreds of human-powered engines, as well as the robot searchers such as Web Crawler.
But you probably have neither the time nor inclination to do that. This is where Maximizer comes in. It works by simultaneously registering your site with 50 top search engines. It will then automatically resubmit your site at the regular intervals permitted by each engine. There can be drawbacks to this one-size-fits-all approach. If you need to maintain a presence on one of the smaller, specialist search engines, Maximiser may not fit the bill, and an expert Web site designer would always argue they could do a better job, but for many companies it will be a huge time-saver.
You can check if the software is paying its way, as it will deliver regular reports, analysing your ranking versus your competitors on all 50 of the engines. Foreign business is taken care of too, as Maximizer will translate keywords into French, Spanish or German for posting on international sites. --John Rennie
