This brings back some great memories, as soon as the memorable theme tune by Randy Edelman kicks in you know you're due 40 minutes of mostly light-hearted escapist fun. Refusing to carry a gun MacGyver works his way through all 7 seasons and 2 TV movies. Carrying not much more than a Swiss Army knife and duct tape and utilising all sorts of everyday chemicals Richard Dean Anderson manages to construct all manner of contraptions and instruments from a hang-glider, hot-air balloon, mortars and Breechers Bouy type rigs to escape from tight spots as the bad guys close in on him.
I've finished the first 2 series and have just started on series 3 and it is even better than I remembered. Starting off as a lone troubleshooter for hire working all across the globe; when the series started in 1985 there was still a major divide between Western and Eastern Europe so understandably a large portion of the early years are spent breaking in and out of Communist camps/prisons etc.
Part way through series 1 MacGyver stops working alone and we are introduced to the Phoenix Foundation and MacGyver's friend, and soon to be boss, Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar) who is with him throughout the rest of the series. Reading up on the show it was a nice touch when Elcar began to lose his sight through glaucoma that his character was given the same medical condition. It's details like this that would have made commentaries or cast interviews an invaluable addition.
Even without that though we get 39 discs containing all 139 episodes and the two made for TV movies filmed after the series had been cancelled.... Read more ›

I watched MacGyver as a kid, and hadn't seen an episode in years. This collection is very nice, and if you are a fan of the series it's well worth having.
Happily the DVDs do not include any rubbish at the start, such as anti-piracy messages, or ads, just a language selection and then you're into the DVD menu. The DVDs are in individual card sleeves, which works okay in use, and allows the box to be quite small despite containing 39 discs. The episode guide is also a nice inclusion, helping you locate your favourite MacGyver moments quickly.
As usual Amazon did a great job with packaging and it arrived in perfect condition, and earlier than expected.

Packaging.
The Macgyver complete series arrived. A Stylish gloss printed carton box that I am happy to display on my TV Cabinet with my swiss army knife right next to it - just in case:)The box is roughly in cm L26xW7x13H so packaging for shipping is not too big which was cool. Inside the individual DVD's are individually packed in carton sleeves. (Some peeps don't like this as they would have wanted cd jewel casings for each. I can't even think how big and heavy this package would have been (cost for international buyers like me in South-Africa would have been double) So carton sleeves is what Macgyver would have chose as well. They are neatly packed in sequence of seasons etc. I want to watch Macgyver, not admire the disc packaging ;)
The episode guide.
It's a very simple fold up leaflet. It lists the disc number and the name of each episode with a small brief of storyline. I think it's more than enough and adequate.
The DVD's.
Each DVD has good quality print on it like normal shop DVD's. So the quality there is good. For fun, each disc is different. For instance one has a paper clip on, the other a stick of gum and wrapper, the other a bottle cap :)
The Root Menu for the DVD gets loaded directly, no lengthy intro stuff. Straight to simple direct Macgyver style menu :) I love it! Choose episode - go!
Visual and Sound quality.
I have a 32inch LCD TV, so the image is fairly large. The quality is very good. The picture is clear and there is no signs that it "looks copied" from the originals. The quality of viewing in my opinion is better now on my LCD than the original aired back in the day on our home tube TV. The shows have subtitles in english and 12? other languages which is wow. The Sound quality is clear, bright and explosions have a lot of Boom!... Read more ›

I watched MacGyver when I was young, I've nearly seen them all three times and the last time it was.... years and years ago.
Yes, I agree the Cold War is no more, the time of 2 Germany is done since 1989-1990, but what a pleasure to watch again (and again, I'm sure) this TV serie which get old very well. MacGyver stays a very simple hero (able to do anything with very few things) as the new TV series don't succeed to create anymore.
It is sure again our children would laugh about the computers or mobile phones which are showned in it, but I'm sure they would appreciate it as well.
This pack is really good. You have the possibility to watch it in the language you want (English, French, Italian, Spanish). And you have the 2 movies... which is great!

This morning I opened the "MacGyver the complete series" box with my Swiss Army Knife. (My favourite TV show when I was young and still..)
I give it 5 stars and 3G.
3G means:
- Great packaging and delivery time by Amazon.
- Great solid box set with individual carton cases for each DVD.
(Including the two TV movies and also subtitles for Netherlands,Portugal and
Greece).
- Great picture quality.
Recommended for all the fans. Now let's make a bomb out of a chew gum...
