Introducing the new 13-inch MacBook Pro--the new standard for performance and portability

The new 13-inch MacBook Pro features advanced NVIDIA integrated graphics technology along with Intel Core 2 Duo processors that are faster than ever before. That makes for the ultimate combination of performance, portability and battery life--up to 10 hours--without adding an ounce to the slimmest, lightest MacBook Pro. And with 4GB of memory and larger hard drives now standard, this is the most powerful 13-inch MacBook Pro yet.

Faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors

Now reaching speeds up to 2.66GHz, the new processors in the 13-inch MacBook Pro are big on performance. With the 1066MHz frontside bus and 3MB of shared L2 cache, all your applications will run faster and more efficiently than you thought possible.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro uses the NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor
Experience a performance boost of up to 80% on previous MacBook generations when using graphic-intensive applications. View larger.

More powerful NVIDIA graphics

The 13-inch MacBook Pro features the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics processor with 48 processing cores--three times as many as before. The result? The fastest integrated graphics on the market and a performance boost of up to 80 percent over the previous generation. That makes a huge difference when you’re using 3D games and graphics-intensive applications. And when you’re not, you’ll benefit from a new energy-efficient architecture that uses up to 40 percent less power for everyday tasks like writing email and surfing the web. It’s so efficient, in fact, that you can now get up to 10 hours of battery life on a single charge.

A display of brilliance

Every MacBook Pro has a pristine LED-backlit display with wide-angle viewing and a colour gamut usually seen only on a desktop display. So whether you’re watching a movie or making one, you’ve got the perfect canvas. The ultrathin, seamless glass enclosure makes the display strong and durable. And because it’s power efficient and free of mercury and arsenic, this display is greener than ever. Ready for something even more brilliant?

Precision aluminium; the new gold standard

Carved from a single block of aluminium, the MacBook Pro is a true engineering achievement. Its patented unibody enclosure is the product of precise machining. From the thumbscoop to the now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t sleep indicator, no detail is unaccounted for. The end result is a notebook that’s not only breakthrough, but thin, light, polished and refined. The unibody also makes MacBook Pro more durable than ever. So you can throw it in your briefcase or messenger bag, and pull it out at an airport, at school, at the office or on location without a second thought.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro gives you up to 10 hours battery life on a full charge
The new MacBook Pro batteries last longer and perform better than ever before.

The longest-lasting Mac notebook battery ever

The new energy-efficient architecture in every MacBook Pro gives you dramatically longer battery life. On a single charge, the battery in the new 13-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 10 hours, and you’ll get up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles--that’s nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries. Advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging allow the battery to maintain charging capabilities longer and determine the optimal way to charge the battery’s cells. Because the battery lasts up to five years, MacBook Pro uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three. That makes for less waste. And that, in turn, makes for one environmentally friendly battery.

Even the keyboard is advanced

The rigid aluminium keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers. The result? Pure typing bliss. The keyboard is also illuminated, so when you’re in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you’re typing.

Be everywhere at once

Cleverly integrated--almost hidden--at the top of the MacBook Pro display is an iSight camera. Use it with iChat and you can be anywhere without actually being there. Video chat with up to three of your friends, share a video with a colleague, or present to a client. Use iSight with Photo Booth for fun photo effects. And there’s no need to waste valuable primping time installing software or configuring the camera. Like everything Mac, iSight just works.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro features a combined, multi-touch trackpad and operation button
Zoom, rotate, navigate and click with the MacBook multitouch trackpad. View larger.

It all just clicks

The first thing you might notice--or not notice--about the MacBook Pro trackpad is the button. The entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere. Without a separate button, the spacious trackpad gives your hands plenty of room to move on the large, silky glass surface. Use two fingers to scroll smoothly up and down a page with inertial scrolling. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate an image with your fingertips. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries. Swipe with four fingers to show your desktop, view all open windows or switch applications. If you’re coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad. The more you use the Multi-Touch trackpad, the more you’ll wonder what you ever did without it.

Burn DVDs superfast

After editing and applying the finishing touches to your home movie masterpiece in iMovie and iDVD, use the ultrafast 8x SuperDrive on your MacBook Pro to burn it to DVD. And because the SuperDrive also writes to double-layer discs (DVDs with nearly 9GB of space), it’s great for backing up data.

The Greenest MacBook ever

The new MacBook Pro embodies Apple’s continuing environmental progress. It is designed with the following features to reduce environmental impact:

  • Arsenic-free display glass
  • BFR-free
  • Mercury-free LED-backlit display
  • PVC-free1
  • Highly recyclable aluminium and glass enclosure
  • Reduced packaging volume
  • Meets ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 requirements
  • Rated EPEAT Gold2

Your studio to go

With the latest 802.11n wireless technology built into MacBook Pro, you’re always seamlessly and effortlessly connected to the wireless world out there, at home and at work. MacBook Pro automatically finds available networks and allows you to join them with just one click. Bluetooth wireless technology is also built in, so brilliant accessories can become your wireless accomplices. With a built-in battery that lasts longer than ever before, you can do everything you need to do, where you need to do it.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro has all the ports you need including FireWire 800, USB 2.0 and SD card

Ports with possibilities

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is iPod, iPhone, digital camera and external hard drive ready. If it has a cable, there’s a place for it. You’ll find two USB 2.0 ports and a FireWire 800 port for connecting faster peripherals.

The Mini DisplayPort delivers a pure digital connection to external displays--even large 30-inch displays--quickly and easily. It gives you plug-and-play performance with the Apple LED Cinema Display and supports VGA and DVI, as well as the latest multimedia standards such as DisplayPort and HDMI.

Transfer your photos and videos to and from your MacBook Pro just as fast as you’re able to take them. Built into the 13-inch MacBook Pro is an SD card slot, so you can edit and share your photos and digital video on the spot.

I've been an avid windows user all my life, and one day (not too long after pay day) I lost it with my old windows xp laptop. Right there in the heat of the moment while I was angry at my old Sony vaio, I marched down to the apple shop and handed over wads of cash. I've never looked back since.

The battery life is simply amazing, unrivalled in it's class. Snow leopard is an absolute joy to use and if you still like using windows for certain tasks, you can run it alongside snow leopard using software called parallels.

The screen is stunning, and in combination with the backlit keyboard, your eyes will thank you. The design is robust, sturdy, and has a satisfying thud when the magnetic clasp grips the machine shut.

I'll never go back to windows, not for love nor money. This is the way forward, and it comes in such a sexy little practical aluminium package!

As good as they say. 27 Aug 2010
Well due to various friends also taking the plunge from PC to Mac, I joined the fray at the end of June and, quite frankly, why did I not do this years ago?! I shan't go over the same eulogising ground at the foot of Temple Apple as many have done before but suffice to say, the MacBook is all I dreamed of and more. Stunningly designed and beautiful to behold. I am paranoid now about scratching the aluminium unibody casing so my pockets are about to be further emptied to invest in either a Zagg or Wrapsol protection system.

There were many reasons why I chose to finally shift my allegiance away from Mr Gates' mob but, ultimately, I had got sick of the constant viral attacks/spammers/scammers attacking the PC user (yes us Mac bods get far less of this abuse) and the subsequent Microsoft updates which slowed my machine down to becoming so bad that it was unusable during the update download phases. And this was becoming almost a weekly occurrence. And Microsoft if you're listening - do not under-estimate the damage that is done to your brand equity when a consumer discovers that a Mac will switch on and be usable in about 30-40 seconds from powering up opposed to 20-30 MINUTES which Windows was taking to boot-up on my only 3 year Sony Vaio!!! A small detail perhaps but so big in many ways. Imagine buying a car - turning the key - but not being able to drive off for 20 minutes as you sit there like a lemon. Welcome to Windows eh.

Still learning the Leopard OSX so do not feel sufficiently experienced to review here but early signs suggest it is the best software I've ever used. Not perfect but it really is as good as the reputation suggests. A delight to behold and use.

I also plunged in head first and bought the Apple Time Capsule which seamlessly backs-up your data every hour 24/7 - automatically via Time Machine. Check the Apple site for demo videos and you'll see why this is a godsend. Amazing how much we will pay for peace of mind.

Talking of which - ouch. Yes, the premium price we have to pay IS excessive Mr Jobs. But seeing your latest quarterly profit earnings this suggests millions are prepared to pay for quality like myself so me moaning about the huge price will fall on deaf ears no doubt. But hey, I do not regret the decision to switch form PC at all. Best thing I've done in years. If you are a wavering and undecided PC user then delay your pontificating no longer. Do it - you will not regret it.

Oh and a nod to the guys at Amazon - fantastic price/service and reliability as always. Simply the best global retailer - on or offline. End of.

This, the latest version of Apple's unibody MacBook Pro with a 13" screen is superb. I was initially disappointed that it didn't feature Intel's new i5 and i7 (Nehalem) processors, which set a new performance bar. But the Core 2 Duo in this MacBook Pro is actually very fast and powerful. The reason Apple chose it was because it provides a quantum leap in battery life - 10 hours. Overall, this latest model simply improves on what was already an outstanding computer. You'll find the chipset more than adequate for 99.9% of tasks.

The hardware is robust and sleek and will easily survive everyday carrying here, there and everywhere. The screen is gorgeous - another improvement - and the keyboard is easy to use in all light conditions thanks to standard backlighting. There are more than enough ports, including a firewire port missing form earlier versions. Apple has clearly taken customer feedback on-board.

In case you are considering a switch from PC to Mac, it is worth remembering that the very best reason to buy any Apple laptop is the Mac OSX operating system inside it. Visually gorgeous and totally intuitive to use, you will be stunned by it. This really is shock and awe for computers. I never loved my old Sony VAIO, but it was true love at first byte with my Mac. Given the extraordinary longevity of these machines, you're in for a long-term relationship. Nice to have computer that will last for years instead of being obsolete within months.

Then there is Apple's customer service and support. This is equally brilliant. In short, I am a delighted customer. You will be too.
