5.0 out of 5 stars Moving from Windows to Mac? 25 April 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've had my MacBook over a year now and know my way around it pretty well, not that its so different anyway. I recently bought this book and found it will take you through those early stages which are a bit tiresome and a bit difficult. There's something there for the experienced user too. The authors are experienced and enthusiastic Mac users.
The print is a nice size and the illustrations are clear and useful. The book is light hearted and easy to work through. Enjoyable and I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good self tuition course for Mac 8 Dec 2010
By John
This book explains most of the standard facilities available on a Mac. The explanations easy to follow and there are clear illustrations. What I found most useful was the way it explained the concepts of the Mac environment and helped me to convert my thinking from Microsoft.

I own several Apple MacBook Pro (MBP) laptops, the oldest of which uses the Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8) operating system. The latest laptop uses the Mavericks operating system. However, my favourite laptop and the one I use daily, is a 17-inch laptop dating from early 2006. This has a 32-bit dual-core Intel processor which was quickly superseded by a 64-bit model which can run the more recent operating systems. My 32-bit MBP cannot be upgraded and therefore it makes extensive use of Snow Leopard, the last operating system it can run.

I have a large collection of computer books on the various operating systems, some predating Snow Leopard, but others dealing with OS X Lion, Mountain Lion and finally Mavericks. I have a feeling I have purchased this book before but have somehow mislaid it. Seeing an opportunity to purchase another book in mint condition for next to nothing I went ahead and made a second purchase. I do recall that the original book was of considerable use to me when I was learning to use Snow Leopard but recent books that take a fresh look at an out of date operating system seem to fail to appreciate just how good Snow Leopard was, and still is. Newer books are not always better and sometimes the older reference books are more thorough in describing the subject material. The Peachpit Learning Series of books is one such series and whilst this book is now out of print it can still be found in good secondhand condition. The copy I received is 'like new'. Recommended.
