EXCELLENT IN-DEPTH REVIEW OF MZ RACING SINCE THE 2ND W.W. BY JAN LEEK WHO IS OBVIOUSLY A MAJOR ENTHUSIAST OF MOTORCYCLING. GOOD SELECTION OF PHOTOS, COMPLEMENTED BY INTERESTING TEXT, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, SADLY IT APPEARS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

This review is from: MZ The Racers: The Birth of the Modern Two-Stroke (Paperback)
I bought this book recently to add to my collection of "desirable" books to own as an MZ enthusiast. I read it from start to finish in one day and it is an excellent read. The photos included within the 96 page book are great for the era. Bear in mind that there are not many photos of MZ racers or data, to be found easily elsewhere so this book for its photos alone, is worth it. It is a truly superb account of the rise and fall of the MZ racing machine, twisted with intrigue and the betrayal committed by Ernst Degner when he defected to the West in 1961 with Walter Kaaden's 2-stroke secrets and sold them to Suzuki. Most motorcycle enthusiasts are unaware of the huge part that MZ and Walter Kaaden played in the development of the Japanese 2-stroke machines, especially Suzuki and Yamaha. Bear in mind that when you see a Suzuki RG500 racer, it is in essence, four MZ RT125 singles put together as a square four! Little do we know that the development of the V1 and V2 rockets (which Kaaden worked on) during WW2, would be utilised in the development of motorcycle expansion chambers up to and including, the demise of the 500cc World Championships in 2002/3. This is a rare book and as such, can only be a sound investment.
