I bought this particular disc drive because it specifically mentions the model of my netbook in the product title (ASUS EEE) so i was sure it would be compatible. And yet, using the USB cable that is provided with the disc drive (actually, two are provided "for extra power" despite the fact that the drive only has one USB slot) was completely ineffective at getting my netbook to recognise the device and start running the driver. The instructions are in a jumbled form of English that has obviously been translated from Chinese and are of no help.
The only way i found to make the drive actually work on my computer was to use a printer connector USB cable (as there is a slot on the drive this shape) which finally seemed to provide enough power to start the driver running.
Still i encountered more problems trying to play DVDs, because the Windows Media software required is not included with netbooks at all... No fault of the disc drive but if you're buying specifically to use with a netbook it definitely tests your stress levels! I had to download the Media Player Classic plug-in before DVDs would play at all.
All this being said, the disc drive works fine, it's just the set-up that is ridiculously long-winded and frustrating!

Bought this item because the internal CD drive on my laptop had 'died'. I only used it for uploading CDs to my MP3 player - or for burning CDs, so didn't need anything too high spec. This item does exactly what it is meant to do. I have a Dell laptop with Windows XP as the operating system. The drive was 'plug and play' - no issues, and it works fine without the additional USB power connection - so only one USB connection needed. My laptop has four USB connections anyway, so it wasn't going to be a problem if I had to use two. I only got it yesterday, and so far have played one CD and burned one CD - but it did both fine, so I'm hopeful that it will continue to behave. I haven't tried a DVD in it yet as I don't watch DVDs on my laptop. The drive itself is small and neat, and looks well. Would definitely recommend for anyone requiring a simple CD RW drive.

Worked perfectly, very small, nice tactile feel to it, highly recommended. An ideal accessory to a netbook, really useful and saves so much time when swapping operating systems!

With laptops becoming faster and sleek, something had to go and the DVD disc drive was replaced by USB sticks.
I needed a disc drive and this has proved the best problem solver for me this year. Just plugged it in and my Acer recognised immediately. I recommend it to all.

Excellent. Does exactly what you would want it to do. Bought this to use with a Samsung NC10 Netbook. Although two leads are supplied only one was required (the second one is to connect to a second usb port if additional power is required). Plug it in, wait for it to auto load and thats it. Couldn't be simpler. Very fast transfer rate on data. Great value and extremely satisfied.

I bought this to go with a work Dell Laptop supplied by the client with XP but with no CD/DVD drive. Unfortunately it failed to recognize the MyLink drive. I then tried it with my home Laptop, also XP, which did recognize it but came up immediately with a power surge error. I tried with my home PC (VISTA home) and this two did not recognize it. There are no real instructions on what to do now, so it has gone back.

Purchased this as the DVD-RW drive on my PC is faulty. Recognised immediately by Windows XP. It has successfully played an audio Cd, downloaded picture files from a backup Cd, ripped an audio Cd to Windows Media Player, and burned a Cd from WMP. I suspect it would also play a DVD, but my PC lacks the necessary bit of software for this. Downsides ? Well, the USB cable is only 58 cms long, so clearly designed primarily for use sat next to a laptop. With an 'under the desk' PC it sits best on the floor. The Cd tray slides out from the front, and seems a bit delicate - best to be gentle with it.
