I bought this particular disc drive because it specifically mentions the model of my netbook in the product title (ASUS EEE) so i was sure it would be compatible. And yet, using the USB cable that is provided with the disc drive (actually, two are provided "for extra power" despite the fact that the drive only has one USB slot) was completely ineffective at getting my netbook to recognise the device and start running the driver. The instructions are in a jumbled form of English that has obviously been translated from Chinese and are of no help.
The only way i found to make the drive actually work on my computer was to use a printer connector USB cable (as there is a slot on the drive this shape) which finally seemed to provide enough power to start the driver running.
Still i encountered more problems trying to play DVDs, because the Windows Media software required is not included with netbooks at all... No fault of the disc drive but if you're buying specifically to use with a netbook it definitely tests your stress levels! I had to download the Media Player Classic plug-in before DVDs would play at all.
All this being said, the disc drive works fine, it's just the set-up that is ridiculously long-winded and frustrating!

I ordered this as a dvd player as i have number of region 1 dvd's..it is simple to use, just 2 wires to connect and so far has worked perfectly. i have windows 7 and using a sony vaio.

Worked perfectly, very small, nice tactile feel to it, highly recommended. An ideal accessory to a netbook, really useful and saves so much time when swapping operating systems!

Pleased.
This was overall a pleasant product as i was able to burn my CD-Rs but not my DVD-RWs works as perfect as a normal CD-Drive.

Stopped Working
Only had this afew weeks and it stopped working.Didnt drop it or abuse it . Only managed to watch two films.

Small. Cheap. Easy to use.

Can't fault the device
Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Fortunately (with recent operating systems) it is plug'n'play because the translated instructions (from Chinese?) are appallingly bad. Read more
