Great little board 18 Jun. 2013
By BlackLotus - Published on
Overall this is an excellent little motherboard. It has all of what you need and nothing of what you don't.

The good - It's small - as in smaller than other micro boards I've used. I find this overall a plus - gives you more room for other stuff such as the never ending cable clutter. It has enough sata ports - I run an SSD, HDD, and DVD drive. Someday I'll fill it all up and I can slip another HDD in without an issue. It has just enough expansion ports - I've only ever used 2 myself even on full atx boards. Accepted my processor and ram and all that jazz - recognizes it all and works flawlessly. All the plug ins for power and fans are well done. It has 2 plug ins for case fans, one of which even has a 4 pin connector - which is nice! It stays cool, which is always a problem for smaller components even with good fans/venting.

The not as good - As others have pointed out, if you use a 2 slot and long video card - it'll block 1 or 2 of the sata ports. It's not ideal, but this is a small board that should be going into a small build, you can't be using the biggest components available (or well shouldn't be at least). There are a couple of companies who make slim, short video cards that aren't terrible or 5 year old chip-sets, so that almost negates this. When I've used different RAM, it obviously detects it, gives a message along the lines of "ram is different" and all I've figured you can do is reset the computer. It then accepts the ram and goes along its merry way - I've never had a board do it this way before. My last complaint is the lack of USB 3.0. I knew this going in and I added a usb 3 expansion card, but it's frustrating. I don't know if it's a limit of the H61 chipset or not, but still (I know the H61 is a budge chipset for those who don't need over clocking or a bunch of ports, but having SOME future proof ports would be smart).

Conclusion - for the price and flexibility and usefulness of this board, any shortcomings are easily over looked. Most of the 'faults' of this board come with its size and chipset - but are they really faults then when it's built to function this way? Compromises have to be made for size and pricing - all of which I'm fine with given this is a very solid little board.
Good motherboard, but lacks expansion capability. 21 Sept. 2014
By Christopher W. - Published on
It's a good starting motherboard. For a low level PC, it works great. However, when you want to expand (gamer here, so I have high expectations), it is lacking. However, I must say that for this price, all motherboards are lacking. You'd probably be better off, if you can afford it, to go up to the 150 dollar price point and buy yourself something you'll never need to replace. However, this does the job and is a good placeholder motherboard for future upgrades. That said, unless you are going to want to do heavy gaming or video processing or something else that needs a lot of hardware, this works FINE. DO NOT buy a more expensive motherboard if you are simply going to want to browse the web and have pictures and work video playback.

Does Everything Expected of It In Price Range 20 Dec. 2012

This motherboard is perfect for a low-budget build of any kind, and I personally am using it for gaming. It is LGA1155, so it is compatible with nearly every modern Intel processor. I am using a GTX 560, an i3-2120, and 1 stick of 4 GB RAM along with a stick of 8 GB in the other slot. One thing to note though is the RAM clock speed is generally limited to 1333 MHz, so keep that in mind. The H61 chipset isn't such a great choice for overclocking, but it can be done. MSI even provides a separate menu in BIOS for overclocking. The BIOS is simple and just fine. There are enough USB ports for just around anyone, and it provides legacy ports if you need those. However, since it is a Micro-ATX board, large components can block some ports, like how my medium-sized graphics card blocks 2 of the SATA ports, unfortunately. The documentation provided is bare minimum, and to install the header cables from the case I had to do rather extensive research for the online manual on MSI's site. This is the only thing I really had a problem with, it was annoying for that not to be included. However,it is a great board for any budget build. I can recommend this for just about anyone.

Built a computer for my neighbors with this motherboard and a Pentium dual core sandy bridge. Seems to be well built while still cheap. Overall a great product.
