Product Description

Product Description

SATA 6Gb/s provides double the bandwidth of traditional SATA 3Gb/s, and increases the data transfer rate between your mainboard and internal storage devices, such as 7200RPM HDDs, 10000RPM HDDs and SSDs. It's also the current trend for upcoming high-speed internal storage devices to to break the existing bottleneck of a PC's performance. Compared to the 480Mbps provided by traditional USB 2.0, the all-new USB 3.0's 5Gb/s offers 10 times the transfer bandwidth, so transferring a Blu-ray movie takes less than one minute. Mobile consumer appliances are getting more and more attention in current day fast moving life style, with smart phones and tablets almost becoming a fashion accessory. However, many ordinary personal computers cannot charge some of these devices, making it difficult to stay connected. The MSI Super Charger is a Windows resident program capable of revising the power supply mode of your USB port to become more powerful. Once your phone or tablet is connected to your USB port, the Super Charger sends a signal to initiate its charging circuit, making it a really smart and convenient charging solution for mobile computing needs. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is new generation fully digital video/audio interface which can transfer 1080p High-Definition video and Audio output in single compact connector.

Positive out of the way first: good board, easy to install, very slick BIOS with very straight forward controls for OC'ing and comes with 2 SATA III cables (which is nice!). Also, great price when I bought it.

However, I bought this back in May in anticipation for my first PC build to feature an A10-6800K. Once I came to building said machine in mid June, I ran into a bit of a problem. The stock BIOS (version 1.7) does not support Richland so an update to version 2.0 (or higher) is required. Fair enough, thought I, doesn't sound too hard... At which point I discovered (and this is MSI's official advice by the way) that the only way to do this is to use a Trinity processor to update the BIOS then reinstall Richland APU... Argh!! The attentive will have noticed that this is a new build so I didn't have a trinity APU going spare and in the end decided to buy an A4-5300 just to install windows and flash the BIOS (not a bad APU at all actually).

I contacted MSI about this and they were polite and apologetic but ultimately powerless to help. They said that my board was made in Feb and the BIOS was released in April.... So, if you buy one right now for Richland, it MAY work, it may need a BIOS update.

Needed to replace a previous motherbd which had been giving problems and eventually stopped. This board went in with no problems and fired up - quite a bit quicker than previously (when ir WAS working). Has done the job.

had this about a month and so far it has exceeded expectations.
build: amd athlonx4 760k black edition, 16gb ddr3 ram, Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 640 Graphics Card, 500w corsair psu, wd 500gb sata 3 hdd.
no problems with bios, drivers or anything else yet, do be aware if you pair this with my chosen cpu you will need a separate gpu,
the board does have on-board graphics, but only if you combine it with a chip that has such capability.
only 2 ram slots hence 4 out of 5* another 2 slots would have got that extra star.

It does what I want. Connected to an AMD A8 6600K, 8GB of 1600Mh RAM and an HDD. It just feels very standard, and looking back I wish I spend a little more for a standard ATX board, with more connectivity such as USB 3 and more RAM slots. This will be the first part of my PC I'll upgrade. Probably gonna go with Gigabyte too.
