Well not quite, but this is certainly an album that is more immediately accessible then much of the great man's previous work, at least that's my initial impression after listening to a pre-release Promo copy for the last month or so. All the Trademark tones and hypnotic rhythms are present but hey, is that a feint jazz undercurrent on 'Ray of Light'? and some Bossa Nova on 'Love Tendrilises? Wow! 'A flower White' with it's strange folkie feel could almost be a single. Lots of English lyrics from the various featured vocalists with Nancy Elizabeth sounding like a non-smoking younger sister to the late Nico.
It normally takes a while to fully appreciate a Yokota album but this one seems to work straight from the case and is up there with his best work. It's certainly not as challenging as some of his previous releases nor even as innovative but all thirteen tracks are subtly glowing musical gems that are hugely enjoyable. 'Mother' could well go on to be very successful release for Lo Recordings. If you already like Susumu Yokota's more ambient music, you'll like this. If you are new to him then this is a good title to start with. Recommended. *****
