I initially bought this album when I was a teenager back in 1993 after my boyfriend recommended it. Listening to it again almost 12 years later, it still makes me shiver. It brings back so many happy memories, and yes I'll follow the herd and agree that it does sound a little like Primal Screams 'Screamadelica', but that's not a bad thing as it's another great album from the 90's.

This is a truly beautiful, uplifting and seemingly forgotten album. No review of it I've seen has been able to resist comparing it to 'Screamadelica' (and who am I to break with tradition?) and that is certainly the easiest reference point to use to describe the sound, but of the two albums I much prefer 'Morning Dove White'. While the music itself (elements of dub, ambient and pop, combined with Proper Songs) is inspirational enough, it's the voice of Dot Allison that makes this album so special. From the opening bars of 'Fallen' (the first track on the album and also the band's first single) as she confides 'I don't know why I'm telling you any of this...' her voice sends shivers down your spine. Emotive, expressive and incredibly seductive, her voice is all over this album in breathy background whispers, lead vocals and harmonies to just lose yourself in. But there is more to One Dove than just Dot, as shown by 'There Goes The Cure', one of my favourite tracks which is also largely instrumental.
One Dove recorded a follow-up album which was never released and split up shortly afterwards, which while being pretty tragic does at least mean that their mystique as a lost treasure remains intact. But even 'Morning Dove White' is flawed - at the insistence of the record company it ends weakly with the single remixes of 'Breakdown' and 'White Love', which while being fine pop songs are elsewhere on the album in better forms. 'My Friend' is an instrumental and feels half-baked in comparison to the rest of the album. Now if they'd lost those tracks and put 'Jolene' and 'Skanga' from the single release of 'Why Don't You Take Me' (if you find a copy, buy it) on, they would have had an almost perfect album. But who wants perfection?

This album is a classic. The track called Breakdown is worthy of a place in the music history books. This is a mellow album, yet with raw emotion unlike any other act around. Pure pop at its very best. Dot Allison has an angelic voice. For people who like Screamadelic and beautiful things.

Already more than 10 years old, Morning Dove White still manages to sound both timeless and modern. Andrew Weatherall's heavily dub-influenced production contrasts beautifully with the orchestrated strings and Dot Allison's whispered soprano (the best thing she's ever done). A great album.

Dots voice is enough to make the hardest of men cry, coupled with some of Weatheralls usual high production makes this one of, if not my favourite album of all time. One of the little treasures that should be heard by everyone!

I agree that this is one to own. I hadn't heard it for a few years but when I played it recently I was so overcome by how good this one-off is that I was compelled to seek out all of the singles that came from it so I could get the b-sides. Nuts !

Quite simply, this is a smooth combination of chilled-out beats, bass and silky atmospherics complimented by Dot Allison's breathy and sometimes understated vocals. To me, this IS 1993 and if they tried to re-make this now I think it would be impossible to get the same sublime mix of sounds falling away from the 80's and into a trippier and cooler 90's groove. Buy this! And Dot, if you're reading this - how about reforming?
Well, I had to ask.

This is one of the purest morning after albums of all time. Brings back so many memories of the next morning after a hard nights clubbing! If you are looking for something soothing to listen to go for this, it will make you feel good again!
