5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious hummous 18 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a lovely little book with some delicious ideas for hummous. It has inspired me to make up a version of my own (hummous with green peppercorns). The only recipe I wasn't too keen on was the one with peanut butter, but even then my addition of lemon juice made it perfectly acceptable. This book is highly recommended.

Just one thing - chickpeas can take up to 3 hours to become perfectly soft, so the author's instruction to boil them for one hour is a bit optimistic. However, this is a very minor quibble and in any case I am sure most of us use tinned chickpeas anyway!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really addictive recipes. 26 Mar 2012
By Mina
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book a week ago because my young son likes chickpeas but I've exhausted all the curries and salads I could make for him. I'm personally not a fan of hummus and my son doesn't like it either probably because of its texture but I thought that I would renew my efforts to try it again.

Since trying some of these recipes I must admit I can see why people go on so much about hummus and spend so much money on tiny little cartons of it, when made properly it is absolutely delicious! I made the simple hummus first and it was so lovely and creamy that I polished it all off myself. Then as I love roasted peppers I made both the roasted pepper hummus recipes and they were absolutely delicious as well and for the last few days have been eating nothing else as I just can't get enough.

There is also a lovely falafel recipe in this book as well which is also good on its own if you want to make a large batch. Thankfully I won't have to spend a fortune buying these from the stores and I actually look forward to trying the other recipes from this book soon.

This ebook is about quality not quantity.

If, like me you get tired of the bland hummus found in supermarkets, then this is a great book to buy. A mixture of recipes that seem to cover all preferences. Well written and easy to use. Simple!

5.0 out of 5 stars Now I'm hungry so I'll have to bake some Pita to go with my hummus! 16 Feb 2012
By Grandma - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As I sit here eating hummus for breakfast (AGAIN!) I had to laugh at Katherine Canning's statement early in the text of MORE THAN HUMMUS CLASSIC HUMMUS RECIPES AND SO MUCH MORE that one batch would feed 8 - or 4 in her household! I get just about three meals out of a batch and there is just me to eat it most of the time.

Believe it or not, there was a time that I did not like hummus. My daughter would buy a tiny, kind of expensive little container of it every time a friend came to visit from the UK, but frankly I just didn't like the look of it. Then, when my granddaughter and I were homeschooling we studied the Silk Road and the Middle East. As part of our investigations we studied the food of the Middle East (if you don't understand something about the food, you won't understand the culture either) and so of course we researched and made a Middle Eastern dinner - hummus, tabbouleh, Felafel balls, Labane, olives, a little salad and of course homemade Pita Bread. We invited relatives and threw a party. Dinner was a huge success and hummus has made at least a weekly appearance in my house ever since. There are only a very few things that I buy canned other than anchovies: tomatoes and chickpeas. Oh yes, I do cook my own chickpeas from scratch in big batches and keep some in the freezer, but sometimes I am lazy or I want hummus NOW, not when the beans thaw!

MORE THAN HUMMUS CLASSIC HUMMUS RECIPES AND SO MUCH MORE contains everything you need to know about hummus. Do not laugh or turn up your nose when you get to the recipe for Peanut Butter Hummus. I buy tahini and peanut butter at the co-op, where it comes in huge buckets. Since peanut butter and tahini look rather a bit alike, I try to remember to write some indicator of what they are on the deli containers I bring them home in, but now and then I forget. I have been known to accidentally grab the peanut butter instead of the tahini and not realize it until too late. Nobody has ever known but me.

Canning has done a very nice job putting this ebook together. She even got the Table of Contents to show up on the Menu link - rare in Kindle cookbooks. Kudos for a job well done!

Five stars. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really really good! 24 Feb 2012

This book made me want to get straight into the kitchen and make some hummus, which I haven't done for years.

The recipes are well formatted and all sound delicious.

I liked it that the author included information on why chickpeas are good for you and also why you need to soak them.

I will be looking out for other cookbooks by this author, particularly if they are vegetarian ones!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Recipes - Not a One-Note Ingredient! 15 Mar 2012
By BumbleB Media - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a fan of hummus (and the other related food, falafel) but have relied on commercial products while wondering if I couldn't just make it myself. Along comes "More Than Hummus" and what a revelation it is on making hummus (with and without tahini, canned or dried garbanzos) and some excellent hummus options I'd never considered: Sun-Dried Tomato, Greek Olive, Avocado, Roasted Red Pepper.

This recipe ebook is well-written, thoughtfully laid out and Ms. Canning has a sense of humor that engages the reader (esp. moms). Don't skip this ebook thinking "It's just hummus" because true to the title, it really is "More Than Hummus." I'm hoping for more recipes and ideas from Ms. Canning.
