I found the tool somewhat confusing on first inspection, no documentation being supplied with it. On the other hand, it is intended for professionals who should not NEED documentation so, applying grey cells, the correct pins were selected and fitted ( there are 4 sets ) and the back was off in less than 10 seconds.

In the past , I have taken family watches to jewelers etc. to have batteries replaced. Now I can do it myself. The cost of the tool plus that of the battery was less than I would have had to pay to have the job done professionally. I am very happy with my purchase....

If you find trips to the jewellers to replace watch batteries inconvenient or expensive then this tool could be what you need. It's designed for watches with a screw back, of the type which have little notches cut around their circumference. It's solidly made and comes with a number of different shaped keys to fit the different designs of notches on the watch case. Each set of keys consists of 3 pieces which slot into the tool and the distance between the keys can then be adjusted.
I found that none of the keys were exactly the same shape as the notches on my watches so some experimentation with the different shapes to find the best fit was required. It's essential to get a good fit of the keys to the watch back otherwise it will slip off and I found it took some patience to get the adjustment correct. Depending on the style of watch strap you have you may need to remove it to gain access to the back of the watch and this will probably require removing the little spring loaded rods which hold the strap in place. Be careful not to lose them!

The tool needs to be held completely parallel to the watch back otherwise it's likely to slip. I tried it with the tool on top of the watch and the watch on top of the tool and found it easiest with the former arrangement. I didn't need to use a watch holder or vice but this my have been because the backs of the watches I tried were not particularly tight. Once you have the back off the watch then removal and replacement of the battery is reasonably easy though this does vary with watch type and can be fiddly. It's probably best to use a pair of tweezers for handling the battery.

In summary I'd say that if you're reasonably practical and have patience then you'll be happy with your purchase, otherwise I'd give it a miss and stick with letting the jewellers do this for you.
