'Cleverly plotted...the story moves along at an enjoyably brisk pace' Susanna Yager, Sunday Telegraph

Product Description

Always in search of a good story, Fizz Fitzgerald finds it hard to hide her impatience when elderly Mrs Sullivan is shown into her office. Genteel and motherly, Mrs Sullivan can only spell one thing: boredom. Fizz is more than shocked, therefore, when Mrs Sullivan asks Fizz to help prove her guilty of murder...Could this story be too good to be true?Fizz is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery and ropes in long-suffering partner-in-crime Tam Buchanan. However, Buchanan, ever the gentleman, is reluctant to accept an old lady's money on a case that can only prove to be a waste of time. But is it? This new case for dynamic detective duo Fizz and Buchanan is as puzzling as ever. For starters, why is Mrs Sullivan so keen to be accused of murder? Secondly, who exactly was Amanda Montrose, the murder victim: Lady of the Manor; beneficent Scottish gentlewoman; or, in Mrs Sullivan's own words, a 'scruffy little slut'? With at least three people claiming to be Amanda's killer, it seems there is a lot more to the Montrose murder than first meets the eye.

Fizz Fitzgerald is now a fully fledged lawyer ensconced at Buchanan & Stewart. The days when she leapt on each piece of legal work with a glad cry, were behind her, but when silver-haired Mrs Sullivan is shown into Fizz's office she takes her feet off the desk and prepares to be bored. But gentle motherly looking Mrs Sullivan wants Fizz to prove that she has murdered Amanda Montrose, a woman whose body was found in Inverness back in March. Mrs Sullivan is happy to pay whatever it costs, and Fizz knows just the man for the job.

Buchanan having left the practice the previous year to branch out into advocacy is, I think struggling, is the right word, on the this the next rung of the legal ladder, well the bottom rung actually. But despite being not as well-heeled as in current years Buchanan still has his standards and, as he tells Fizz `fleecing an batty old woman of her money for the hair-brained scheme she has just outlined falls well short of those standards.' But Fizz points out that a man has already been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for the crime and if there is the slightest chance of a miscarriage of justice .... Fizz has her man.

The story is well-plotted and as fans of this excellent series will know there is always a delicious twist that turns you on your head, and this one lives up to expectation. Characterisation is as always marvellous - I so enjoyed Justin, a quality craftsman with a City and Guilds certificate who cooks like an angel, and of course the wonderful interplay between Fizz and Buchanan. Not to be missed.

Missing Link was a pleasure to read from start to finish. The Author, Joyce Holms definitely has a wonderful way with words. Missing Link is currently the last book in the Fizz and Buchanan crime series. All nine books are enjoyable and worth a read. They are filled with clever and interesting plots, great atmosphere, genuine characters and lots and lots of humour. Joyce's Trump Card throughout the books are her two intriguing and infectious leads, the headstrong and independent Fizz Fitzpatrick and honourable nice guy Tam Buchanan and their special progressing relationship.
As a fan of the series it would of been satisfying to see a conclusion and put poor Tam out of his misery, but, highly recommended. I'm hooked on this delightful series.

Fizz and Buchanan, a little closer 3 Dec 2008
By Bonita Kale - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
In Missing Link, Fizz is confronted by a sweet little old lady, seemingly sane, who wants to find proof that she committed a murder for whom someone else has been arrested. Plenty of twists and excitement for both Fizz and Buchanan, both of whom have grown up a little, but only a little. Love these guys!

A perplexing mystery 4 Aug 2007
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Written by modern Renaissance woman Joyce Holms, whose varied careers range from hotel management to working for an Edinburgh detective agency to raising two children, Missing Link is a wickedly funny Fizz and Buchanan mystery. Tenacious journalist Fizz Fitzgerald receives a surprise when an elderly woman asks Fizz for help in incriminating herself for murder! Fizz's partner Buchanan dismisses the case of a waste of time - but is it really? A perplexing mystery, in which three different people vie for the notoriety of being named a woman's murderer, Missing Link is fast-paced, irreverently funny, and highly recommended for aficionados of tongue-in-cheek mysteries.
