I can't give a detailed review of this book for two reasons. Firstly, it's been a while since I attempted to read it, and had more or less forgotten about it until I came across it here on Amazon while doing a search for something else. Secondly, I only read a bit of it before giving it to a charity shop, for reasons that will become apparent below.
I am a great fan of books dealing with clandestine operation in WWII, but this one was so badly written - there are only so many times you can re-read a sentence to try and make sense of it - and so inappropriately judgemental in some of its comments about the conduct of the war, that I simply couldn't bear it for more than a few pages.
There are some truly magnificent books about covert ops in WWII out there - "Agent Zigzag", "Eastern Approaches", "Secret Agent(SOE)" and "The Wildest Province", to name but an illustrious few - but this abortion isn't one of them. The poor quality of this book on every level imaginable beggars belief. Read almost anything else on the subject, but avoid this one like the plague.
