Having owned one of these for over five years now I have a few pointers for people trying to decide on one of these.
If you don't have the need to charge eight batteries at the same time then buy one of the four cell chargers like the BC-700 or equivalent.
The recycling discharge/charge mode can take nearly a week for large capacity cells.
It defaults to super fast cook your cheap batteries mode. So you have to remember to press the soft button after inserting the first cell.
The display is hard to read and the mode of charge ( soft and conditioning ) indicators are sometimes almost impossible to tell if they are on or not if viewed in the wrong light.
But it does fast charge eight cells at a time and does it well if you use decent 2500mha cells as a minimum.
Cells are monitored individually and the lcd display shows the approximate charge state of each cell by the use of a mini bargraph for each cell.
It also makes the cells tick! The ticking sound is not the charger but the cells. I have confirmed this by remote charging a cell out of the unit. Although I cannot say why they tick.
The PSU unit gets hot even when not charging any cells. But this never appeared to cause any problems.

This is an excellent and very intelligent charger. I already own one and have taken it all over the world, where it has behaved flawlessly. What is very nice is that each battery has a separate circuit so there is never going to be a case when you mistakenly put two differently-charged batteries together in a pair (many chargers charge batteries in pairs) Dead easy to use and very fast, plus it will Soft Charge (2hrs at 1A) for the low-discharge eneloop style batteries. Why did I get a second charger? A gift ;)
I am based in the UK and despite it being sold on amazon.co.uk and dispatched to a UK address it did not come with a UK 3-pin plug (unlike my previous one, which I got from Nevada Radio in the UK). Nowhere on the product description page is this mentioned. The company (Enerdan) is based in Germany and argued to me that most of their customers are not from the UK, which may well be true but does not stop them adding a simple "comes with European power lead" comment to the product description. I have raised this with them and they have still not changed the product description, so if you are in the UK be aware that you will have to buy a separate IEC power lead for it. To their credit they did send a UK lead when I complained.
So five stars for the product, three stars for the company selling it (only rescued from being less by sending out a replacement lead).

This charger is recommended by many professsional photographers. Each of the 8 slots can take either an AA or AAA battery.
With two charge speeds, either the standard rapid 1 hour mode, or a slower but kinder to the battery 2 hour mode. A conditioning mode also will intelligently put your batteries into a charge-discharge-charge cycle to try to refresh it.
The charger works great most of the time, batteries are charged quickly and don't get too hot, suggesting the charge is doing its job of looking after them.
There were a few times when I inserted a battery and it isn't recognised at all, no indication at all, not any alert or warning. I can only assume the battery was faulty, but assume is all I can do - that's why I've taken the star off. The led on the power adaptor is also very bright, if leaving to charge over night in your bedroom then it will light up the room, I found myself turning the led to face down just so the room isn't so bright, but that's just nit picking.
All in all, I would buy this again if I have to. It's great to be able to charge 8 batteries quickly and safely.
