The EyeBag was invented by the leading UK ophthalmic surgeon, Mr Teifi James, after years of treating patients with frustrating Blepharitis and Dry Eyes.

When the tiny glands between the eyelashes become blocked and the oily layer is missing from the tear film, inflamed dry eyes follow. The EyeBag is the only way to warm the eyelids for long enough to release the blocked oil glands.

NB The standard "hot flannel" treatments risk being too hot initially and can only maintain an appropriately warm temperature for a few seconds. The EyeBag maintains an effective warm temperature (40C) for over 10 minutes.

The latest aim of treatment is to remove the blockages that prevent those essential oils from joining and stabilising the natural tear film that covers and protects the eyes.

Using a EyeBag treatment for Blepharitis and Related Conditions has five main advantages for you:

1. more effective - 10 minutes of dry heat eases the eyelid blockages much more than a hot flannel's short, wet treatment
2. natural, no drugs or detergents that would destabilise your tear film
3. re-sterilisation by Microwaves before each use - reducing the risk of cross infection between eyes and hands
4. easy to apply and pleasant to use - relax for 10 minutes. You will want to repeat it as regularly as is required to relieve your blepharitis
5. Lumecare Sterile Eye Lid Wipes for cleansing Blepharitis have been developed to work with the Mask to clean away waxy oils released by massaging along the eyelids
6. re-usable up to about 200 times (depending on how gently it is warmed up at each use)

I was diagnosed with Blepharitis about 4 months ago. At first I merely paid lip service to the rigmarole of bathing my eyes in diluted baby shampoo and then sitting for 10 minutes with a wet flannel over my eyes that I would need to rinse in warm water every 3 minutes as it got cold. I simply didn't have the time!

However after another trip to my ophthalmologist, I knew I had to take it seriously otherwise I would never be wearing mascara again! But how to overcome the impracticality of the wet flannels? I did some research and came across the Warm Compress Mask and it seemed like a good idea.

Today the use of the mask, together with the Lid-Care Eyelid System Lid-Care Eyelid Hygiene System 100ml is part of my daily routine. I apply the pre-formulated Lid-Care solution to the pads that also come with the kit, put them over my eyes and then sit for 10 minutes with the warmed Compress Mask on top of the pads. This loosens any oil and debris on my eyelashes. Once the 10 minutes is over, I massage my eyelids with the pads and clean them thoroughly. It's so easy to do and it brings instant relief to my eyes.

The video demonstration and the leaflet that comes with the mask are also very informative.

This is the first thing that has worked after over a year of trying everything my eye specialist could throw at my inflamed eye condition, which I've had for over 10 years following thyroid eye disease (I was initially told that it was an incurable side effect of my burnt out thyroid eye disease). The condition got worse when I moved to London so I pressured my GP to send me to a specialist, which they reluctantly did. I then tried various treatments:

Antibiotics didn't work. Steroids didn't work. Antihistamines didn't work. Cyclosporin gel didn't work (haven't tried the drops yet). 6 weeks of flannel hot compresses once a day didn't work. The eyebag works!

I use it twice a day. I tried just using it once a day but the condition came back. Twice a day does the trick though. I've only been using it for a month or so, but after 10 years my eyelids are almost looking like there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. I never thought that would be possible. And now I finally know definitively that I have a Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) condition.

They say blepharitus/MGD/Ocular rosacea is tricky to treat. I think this is in part because it's easy to dismiss a good treatment after giving it a proper go because the condition only responds to both VERY high frequency and VERY high consistency of treatment. They eyebag makes it easy to stick fast to a strict treatment routine. It's actually pleasant to use, super quick and hassle free.

Read and follow the instructions in the booklet in order to keep the eybag in good condition. However one thing you might do differently - that my doctor recommended - was to have it as hot as you can bare. Not just a few degrees warmer than your eyes natural temperature like the instructions suggest.

I have had the same Eyebag for rather more than a year now. It has given me great relief and I use it every day. The reason that I am on the site again is that I am about to buy another.

I have used it for a year, much longer than it says that it will be serviceable is that I am mean and don't buy stuff more often than I must. The reason that the eyebag ceases to heat up as it should is because it dries out. Rehumidifying it when it takes a long time to heat was the answer for me. I put it in a plastics box (air tight lid) with a damp cloth overnight and bingo! Good as new.

As an optometrist suffering from dry eyes due to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) I can honestly say that for what it is this product excellent.
MGD affects most people to a degree and the effects are particularly obvious in contact lens wear. There are lots of products out there for dry eyes, but it really does depend on the underlying causes as to why that happens. So if your dry eyes are not due to MGD this will not work for you.
However, if MGD is indeed to blame, then this handy eye mask makes life a lot easier, much better than messing about with a flannel and hot water and far more hygienic! As ideally it should be boiled water you should be using and since it takes a while for it cool down to the right temperature, this involves a lot of planning. With eye mask, popping it into the microwave in the morning and before going to sleep is hardly taxing. Therefore you get the consistency which is required to control a chronic condition, such as MGD.
The instructions that come with the mask are foolproof and should be read as they contain a lot of valuable advice!
Remember, it is not a miracle cure. MDG is a chronic condition which can be exacerbated by varying hormone levels (ladies watch out!) and diet (less red meat more oily fish, nuts and seeds) therefore improvements are variable. But overall, if you are consistent, follow advice and your own common sense, your eyes will feel a lot better.
