Review

There are 3 recently published books covering the physics component of the First FRCR, which are updated to reflect the new curriculum. Out of all of them, I think this one is the best and most comprehensive. All in all, if you were to choose to invest in one book for the Physics module, I would definitely buy this one. (Amazon review)

This book most accurately reflects the level of the FRCR part 1 physics paper. I failed my first attempt at the exam, by preparing using an online service (which shall remain nameless) and some of the lesser MCQ books. My second attempt was successful, in no small part due to this book which, whilst very dry indeed, matches quite closely the actual exam questions in scope and difficulty. If you can get most of the questions in this correct, then you should be fine for the exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars First FRCR - Physics 9 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
By my calculations there are 3 recently published books covering the physics component of the First FRCR, which are updated to reflect the new curriculum (to include US and MR). Out of all of them, I think this one is the best and most comprehensive. Firstly, it contains the most number of questions (over 400 - each containing 5 stems, not like some other falsely advertised). Secondly, the answer sections are fairly comprehensive and can almost be used as revision notes on their own. The authors have made several diagrams and tables and included these in the answer sections, and these come in very handy during revising as well as improving your understanding. Lastly, it is extensively referenced to Farr's and Dendy's books (with exact page numbers) and other books, including journals and even e-LDs which if you were particularly motivated you can go and read further to enhance your understanding. Most of the time, you don't need to as the answer section is fairly self-explanatory but it is there if you need to. I found the CT, NM and MR sections a little difficult but I think this is likely to reflect the changing curriculum as I heard that there is increasing emphasis on these in the exams and a move away from traditional modalities. All in all, if you were to choose to invest in one book for the Physics module, I would definitely buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars probably the best MCQ book 3 July 2012
Format:Paperback
This book most accurately reflects the level of the FRCR part 1 physics paper. I failed my first attempt at the exam, by preparing using an online service (which shall remain nameless) and some of the lesser MCQ books. My second attempt was successful, in no small part due to this book which, whilst very dry indeed, matches quite closely the actual exam questions in scope and difficulty. If you can get most of the questions in this correct, then you should be fine for the exam.

One thing to be careful of - the RCR examiners are masters of misdirection and like to put in some double- or triple-negative stems and answers. This book isn't quite as devious but does include lots of difficult questions that will trip you up if you don't read them properly. Also, the FRCR exam (as evidenced by the practice questions on the website) will often mix up lots of different subject areas under one stem, which this book does not do. So, your score of 90% in the ultrasound section of this book will not necessarily equate to a high overall score in the exam, as the ultrasound material will be mixed up with everything else.

Great MCQ book set out in way that complements Farr (grandaddy of physics for radiology)

Key concepts that accompany the well explained answers are a real help to clarify what is most of the time a mind boggling exam to most of those radiology trainess with no real prior knowledge of physics. Also directs you to e learning or books which provide more detailed explanation (if needed) so you are not searching around for ages looking for the best explanation in multiple reference books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definite companion mcqs 23 Mar 2014
By echoman
Format:Paperback
It has become a must and definite companion mcqs for FRCR Physics.
I hate to review it in depth,as i noticed the more good review a book in amazon has,the higher will be the used book price(as i fond of buying used mcqs book, you dont need original new book for mcqs)
I saw many candidates using this book for last minute revision out of exam hall,it must have gained enough reputation by now.
Than i started to worry, everyone using the same books wouldn't it make it harder to pass?nothing much you can control.
I finished the papers in 1/2 the time provided,i knew i passed.
The secret to pass at first attempt:
1.Full understanding -farrs physic(page to page)-may take 3-4 rounds of reading
2.Do many quality mcqs-this book,at least 3-4times(page to page),and able to recall all questions and answers(the right answers, some mistakes in this book)
3.No other routes-as far as i am concern

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect 24 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
The questions in this book were very similar in style and content to the recent FRCR exam. My only quibble is there are scattered mistakes in the answers.
