Multiple-choice questions (MCQs) are used by many examination boards as a way of testing a broad spectrum of knowledge in an easily administered and unbiased way. They form a critical part of both the Primary and Final FRCA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) examinations. Six 90-question examinations, and a 30-question sample examination are presented, offering 570 individual questions with detailed model answers and making this book a comprehensive self-learning tool, especially when used in conjunction with other key texts such as Fundamentals of Anaesthesia.

1.0 out of 5 stars So promising, so annoyiny, so disappointing 7 Aug 2005
Format:Paperback
On the face of things this book looks very promising. It has a visual appeal to it, being very well presented, and seems to follow on from the very good OSCE book by the same authors. The synopsis says that it contains genuine college bank questions with full explanations of the answers. Just the sort of premise on which you might buy this book.
However, after just an hour of using this book you want to throw it out of the nearest window. While some of the answers might be slightly wrong, others are wildly inaccurate. Written answers contradict the T/F answers, and where a question might be true in one part of the book, later it will be false. All in all a highly frustrating experience.
Good exam books are ones you can trust. Ones that test your knowledge and help you when you are wrong. With so much contradiction, typographical error and misinformation in a book you soon realise that this is not one of those books. This is not just my opinion, I have consulted with others. None if us used more than a third of this book. Avoid it like the plague. Sorry GMM (CUP) I did write to you, but you ignored me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money 14 Nov 2005
Format:Paperback
I agree with the above - they've even managed to get answers to questions from the college book wrong. This book is currently sat in my fireplace waiting to be finally put to some good use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible book 15 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback
I wish I'd read the reviews here before buying this book - it's truly rubbish. I only got through the first trial paper before giving up, there were just too many inconsitencies and errors. A lot of effort is put into revising for an exam like this. It is insulting to have a book as sloppy as this produced by your colleagues.

"The answers are the authors' suggestions, with explanatory notes. The actual answer in the examination may be different" No kidding.
